? Of the Day: Was the Michael Jackson Memorial A fitting Tribute?

Posted by Juan

Or is was his fame so incredible its impossible to memorialize?

The Fans

On the heels of one of the largest memorial services for an entertainer this world has ever or will ever see, It begs the questions as to whether it was a fitting tribute to Micheal’s memory. Just under a week ago, BET attempted to remix its annual awards show to pay homage to the fallen star but in scraping it together last minute, it was the show that fell, fell flat.

But yesterday (Tuesday) AEG/ Staples Center organized a 2+ hour concert/ funeral/ montage honoring Jackson’s life. A spectacle that would be seen by an estimated billions of people across the world. But did it meet your expectations? Was it well planned? Did it leave you wanting more?

I think BET did a good job given the amount of time they had, that being said, maybe they should have had a segment about Michael and done a tribute later, which I think they are going to do. As for yesterday, while I didn’t see the whole program, that parts that I saw were very well put together in my opinion. It’s amazing though, to look back 25+ years when “Thriller” hit the scene and to now reflect on the fact that he was so LARGE! I mean we knew back then he was the ish, but looking back over time really puts it into perspective. I think the very fact that his services were held at the Staples Center speaks volumes about his popularity.

It is impossible to give Michael Jackson his due with any single event…IMPOSSIBLE and even that great Memorial proved that it still left you wanting more. With that said when you add up ALL the coverage, from BET, MTV, CNN…the radio stations, “record” sales(chart totals), the Memorial and the current coverage, that is what makes up for everything. I think the BET awards did a good job when you add it up with the rest of everything but no single event could do Michael justice and no single event has.

I agree. Although I think BET should have been leading the charge. If there was any single entity that thrived due to his success it was Bob Johnson’s BET.
