Michael Jackson Holds Top Nine Positions on Billboard Pop Charts

Posted by Juan

The undisputed King of the Pop…charts

Jackson Awards

If you still weren’t convinced that Michael Jackson was indeed THE KING, perhaps the endless musical tributes that played around the clock on any radio station around the world that might have ever played his music offered further convincing of his worth.  NO?  Well peep this, in the now almost completed week since his death, the King of Pop is once again the king of the Billboard charts.

In an unfathomable reality, the late entertainer holds ALL OF THE TOP NINE SPOTS on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog Albums chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.  Oh and by the way, the man doesn’t even have an album or a single out.

Lets break it down.  Jackson’s “Number Ones” is at No. 1 with 108,000 (an increase of 2,340%!!!)  The project was a perfect opportunity for adoring fans to cop a cross section of his hits and play in memory.    “The Essential Michael Jackson” landed at 2 and “Thriller” at 3 slots with 102,000 and 101,000, respectively.

Jackson’s 1979 “Off the Wall” landed at No. 4 with 33,000 while the Jackson 5’s “The Ultimate Collection” actually made its debut on the charts with 18,000 copies landing at number 5.  His 1987 album “Bad” which was one of the first albums I can remember playing sold 17,000 at number 6.  Jackson’s fourth studio album for Epic Records, 1991’s “Dangerous,” is seventh with 14,000 while his “Greatest Hits: HIStory — Volume 1″ is 8th 12,000.

Finally, Jackson’s 2004 box set “The Ultimate Collection” which I copped for $34.99 this week rounds off the charts at nubmer 9 with 11,000 copies.

So what was the only non Jackson related album on the charts?  A reissue of the “Woodstock” movie soundtrack, which pushed 8,000 copies.

King?  Do I even have to ask.
