Bumpy Johnson Flick As Told From His Wifes Eyes To Hit Theaters

Posted by Juan

Following her recent death, Havenotz Ent announces Mayme Johnson’s book will be made into a film

Bumpy and Mayme

With the dirt barely settled on the grave of Mayme Hatcher Johnson, widow of Harlem’s most powerful gangster Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson, Havenotz Entertainment has decided to option the rights to her book, “Harlem Godfather: The Rap on My Husband, Ellsworth ‘Bumpy’ Johnson” so that it may be produced into a film.

“This is a man whose history is intertwined with the history of Harlem,” says Havenotz CEO Sardar Khan. “His acquaintances with people like Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson and even Malcolm X are spoken of to this day….This is a story that just has to be brought to the silver screen.” he adds.

Though, Johnson’s story was fictitiously depicted by Laurence Fishburne in the 1997 feature film “Hoodlum” the new film will most likely focus on more of a factual stance rather than theatrical as viewed by the woman who knew Bumpy best, his wife.

Bumpy Johnson of course is the notorious gangster who mixed it up with legends the the likes Lucky Luciano and Dutch Schultz and is rumored to be the mentor of Harlem’s drug kingpin and focus of the smash hit “American Gangster,” Frank Lucas.  Khan said he hopes to team with major production companies to make the movie happen.
