FIRST LOOK: Michelle Obama On The Cover of Time
The First Lady discusses how having Barack “working from home” has improved family dynamic. I’M NOT BUYING IT!
In the latest issue of Time magazine, The face of our fabulous first lady, Michelle Obama graces the cover. In the issue, which hits newsstands today, Michelle tells the magazine how life in the White House has actually improved their family chemistry and relationship with their daughters Malia and Sasha.
Prior to becoming the first lady, Mrs. Obama was once asked if she would consider living in Washington, D.C.
“I was like, no,” she remembers. Now, she’s enjoying having the man of the house at home…It has been the greatest single benefit of this for us as a family. It means that we see each other every day. And that hasn’t happened for most of the kids’ lifetime,” she said.
“It’s rare [for most families] to have dad at home for dinner, to see him in the mornings, to have him there when you go to bed at night, just to be able to have the casual conversations that happen about life at dinnertime. That’s been terrific. It’s normal. It’s more normal than we’ve had for a very long time ”
What does the President say about life in the White House?
“The best is that I get to live above the office and see Michelle and the kids every day. I see them in the morning. We have dinner every night. It is the thing that sustains me.”
According to the magazine, The president often takes unscheduled breaks for what he describes as “Michelle time.” Every now and then, the first lady will bring the kids down with the dog for “a brief but lively interruption.”
This worries me a little I’m not going to front. Maybe I’m reading a little too much into it but whenever ANY couple feels the need to go out of their way to publicly announce that their relationship is spectacular there are usually some issues. I get the whole working from home thing but what’s wrong with admitting that life is stressful on the fam now that Barack is now Mr. President?

All this “normal” talk is what really gets me. What was life like before? When he was a senator did you not see him enough? Was he not spending enough time with the kids?
.
As for the Michelle time… It beats a Lewinsky time. If Hillary spent more time downstairs with her husband, instead of in the east wing, would any of that mess have gone down the way it did?
He’s the president. He probably would have still gotten his. I’m sure they assign aids to for that purpose…just in case.
Yeah, they assign “AIDS” for those who are ‘getting theirs’ the wrong way.
AIDS? or aids. whoa!
Yeah, you probably are reading too much into it, Juan. They may be trying just a bit too hard to be good role models.
.
Obama, as you know, was a senator from Illinois. That means he had an office there and one in D.C. He spent more time in D.C. than in Illinois, obviously. So he probably didn’t spend that much time with his wife and kids, that’s probably why this is kind of a treat for them.
.
Hillary and Bill, Bill and Hillary….I feel like I know them personally, like they’ve come over for dinner…LOL…Hillary stopped putting out a long time ago, I think. What was Bill supposed to do, become a priest? C’mon now!!!and she is not the most attractive woman, either, which made Monica Lewinsky look like Marilyn Monroe to ol’ Bill…I hope Obama is getting it in the Oval office too!!!I would, just for the hell of it! …. and to all the HN female citizens: fulfill your patriotic duty. Give your man some!!!
And vice versa. Like I said I could be reading too much into it. I think good family values START with the president. I think if he can set a good example, perhaps as you’ve stated, that could trickle down to our communities and some how shift things a bit.
I agree with you, hermano grande! This is rather odd that they gave the exact same account of life in the White House. Sounds scripted. But don’t back down because somebody disagrees with you. (Like you did above) You have a decent argument to make. Ride with it!
I like Obama. Good guy but remember he’s still a politician. We’re walking around acting like he can do no wrong. We have to uphold him to the same standards.
.
Zack you’re right. I folded. It is scripted. Life can’t be that easy. Its not like he’s going into this office and his kids are running around it after school. This is a very unusual life and the daughters will undoubtedly go through counseling as they get older. The Obama’s are trying to be far too reassuring. I think their intentions are good as you stated Emerson but I’m just not buying this whole white picket fence deal.
Yeah…but you know, in politics and Hollywood: “Image is Everything.” They have to play that role, otherwise there would be so much speculation, rumors, just trash in general, talked about them. And as genuine, and just real, as he comes across at times, as you pointed out, Juan, Obama is a politician. They really are in a damn if you do and damn if you don’t situation. I really hope they are for real.
Our hands are tied because we got behind this guy. If he flops we’re just as much to blame as he is. We just have to hope and pray. Its not like its a huge gamble because given the history of Bush there no where to go but up.
just wonderful
