Could Nike’s Kobe/ LeBron Muppets Campaign Be a ‘Dan & Dave’ Bust?
Nike’s new “Unstoppable Game Tape” featuring the Kobe & Lebron puppets reminds me of mistakes of the past
Remember the Dan and Dave ads that Nike did for would-be Olympic decathlete rivals Dan O’Brien and Dave Johnson. In the summer of ’92 they were both supposed to compete in the Olympics in Barcelona. Unfortunately, Dan failed to qualify five weeks before the start of the games.
Could Nike once again be setting itself up for failure? After Kobe and the Lakers couldn’t hold home court last night (Thursday) Lebron and Kobe head on the road each tied at 1-1 and if they can’t steal a game could be in danger of losing the series which would make this campaign quite foolish. Has Nike not learned from the mistakes of the past? We’ll see.

I have to stick to what I said before the playoffs started. The Lakers will not represent the Western Conference. These ads ARE set up for failure especially since there is still a chance that neither of them will be in the finals.

I thought about this article last night as I was watching Cleveland go down 0-2 but then Lebron hit the shot. Both series are 1-1 so Nike can feel better.
Yeah that cheer was just as loud in Seattle (Nike Headquarters) as it was in Cleveland.
Nike Headquarters is in Beaverton, Oregon, NOT Seattle… Wow how do they let you post here? Oh wait I guess it makes sense considering the fact that Juan doesn’t even realize that all the Dan/Dave commercials were in fact Reebok and not Nike. Cavs aren’t looking good but I hope they can pull it off, I’ve been a Cavs fan my whole life and it’s been long enough… time for a championship!
I’m feeling the puppet curse now more than ever!! David Stern and Nike are cringing at the fact that Orlando vs. Denver is very realistic. Honestly, Orlando and Denver are outplaying Cleveland and L.A.
You make a good point…your facts are off though…Nike did not do the Dan and Dave thing…Reebok did…but they could still learn alot…’Melo/Lebron in the FINALS
