FALLOUT: 5 Ala. Officers Fired For Beating Reckless Suspect On Tape
Police dashboard video surfaces after a year creating outrage from all angles. So wrong in so many different ways.
Well here it is. You’ve probably seen this several times on the news by now. Tensions are flaring this morning as more and more Americans are seeing this video caught by the dashboard camera of an Alabama Police Department squad car. The incident which originally took place January 2008 left the fleeing suspect in the hospital and lead to the firing of five seasoned police officers has sparked outrage from both sides of the table.
Anthony Warren led police on a 20-minute high speed chase which included a close encounter in which he almost clips and kills a police officer. The incident would eventually end with Warren being thrown from the vehicle as his van spiraled into a rolling vertical tailspin. Appearing to be unconscious and certainly not resisting any further, the broke out the nightsticks and unleashed the pain.
Warren who was clearly wilding but undeserving of the additional punishment was held on $1 million bond and pleaded guilty in March 2009 to first-degree assault and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On the flip side, According to MSNBC, Police Chief A.C. Roper said the officers acted in a “shameful” manner and his department “terminated 50 years of combined service due to 10 seconds of injustice.”
I can’t blame you if you’re disturbed by this video. We’ve talked about police brutality tons of times here on the Nation but this is far more complex. This isn’t a case of mistaken identity or racial profiling. This guy Warren was WRONG! The police compounded that wrong in a very stupid way and were caught on tape by their OWN cameras.
In the end it shows a common disregard for HUMAN LIFE! Warren’s actions not only endangered the life of the officers and vehicular traffic but the officers although understandably upset and frustrated by the suspects aggressive behavior exacted revenge in a way that is inappropriate, excessive and an extreme abuse of power. They all get what they got coming.

THAT WAS NOT NECESSARY TO BEAT THAT GUY UP LIK THAT
not necessary but I believe he deserved it.
Yeah Juan I’m witcha he damn sure deserved it all
Sorry, I don’t feel sorry for the guy, how much you wanna bet he won’t do that shit again!!!!!
The dude was “out” They didn’t know if he’d broke his neck or anything. Job one is to assure safety. Is the suspect alive? Is he injured. THAT IS JOB ONE. Not I’m gonna kick your ass for making me chase you. He was wrong but these are “trained officers”. Old boy came off the top rope like WWF. This cats back could have been broken from when he was thrown out the vehicle. I’m sure they got what they deserved. If they shouldn’t have gotten fired for this one then I’m sure the’ve did this before without getting caught. God works many angles.
They should have whipped him out a little more….he almost hit that cop with the van. I would punched and kicked him too. This police videos always start with people doing the wrong thing and then people getting there asses handed to them after by the police. I dont support police brutality but shit in other contries police beat & kill people for much less. United states is TOO LIBERAL!!!!!
Wait, wait so he deserved to die? I’m not saying that…I just think anyone as reckless as that should get tuned up a little.
Damn, 20 years for assault, no wonder he ran.
Nah the assault came as a result of the chase we still don’t know what the original crime was.
I’ve been reading this post and the responses for a while and I think some of ya’ll being too hard and not looking at the bigger picture. We all see people driving reckless out on the road. We may curse at them, or whatever. We may want to slap them upside their head and tell them to calm down. That said, those cops did what many of us probably felt like doing. They were dead wrong. First, he didn’t hit anyone with the car (close doesn’t count). Second, he was incapacitated and not fighting back. Third, as judges like to say when they lecture convicts as they sentence them: “this is a nation of laws.” Stop right there. The cops broke the law. Granted, he may have, on principle, deserved the ass-whipping, but not under those circumstances and not by the people who are sworn and paid to uphold the law. Who’s next then? If they can just whip your ass when you’re not aggressing them or resisting, what is to stop them from doing it to you, or me, because they’re angry, stressed or having a bad day? How do they know where to draw the line? They are human beings with emotions. They have to govern themselves strictly, so that this kind of stuff doesn’t happen. They are supposed to uphold the law, not break it.
He fell out the van and was not conscious, so it’s over. I don’t understand beating an unconscious person no matter what. Now…if he was conscious and they beat him, it would still be wrong but I would be more understanding because he needed his ass kicked.
good, should have they asses whooped too
