Official Trailer: Walt Disney’s Fairy Tale “The [Black] Princess and the Frog”
Historic hand-animated film set in New Orleans set to drop this Christmas
Walt Disney Pictures has finally released the official trailer for its animated feature “The Princess and the Frog.” While normally, Disney news would be the last thing we’d report on here at Highbrid Nation, the release is the first such film to feature an African American princess. The movie is a historic move for Disney which has never had a noteworthy record with regard to reaching out to its minority fanbase.
The trailer is a long time in the making as we first reported on the then rumored project back in March 2007 as one of the first major stories for Highbrid Nation. The flick also makes headlines as Disney has chosen to return to hand-drawn animation, passing on the CGI techniques made popular by Pixar Studios.
The film revolves around Princess Tiana, The Frog Princess, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, who reportedly lives in New Orleans. While the black princess thing is clearly the main storyline with the film, one can not overlook the fact that the story is set in such a unique and yet important setting. So often Disney fairy tales take place in a mystical and fictitious location. However, Disney perhaps feeling it had already stretched the limit decided to include yet another experiment choosing New Orleans. My one criticism of the trailor, and maybe its just me but the princess sounds a little hood no?
“The Princess and the Frog” will open for exclusive engagements in New York and L.A. on Nov. 25 and then across the country just in time for Christmas on Dec. 11.

black president. black playmates. black fairy tales. this Obama shit is real.
Hopefully it will last but its odd to say, black is trendy. Lets not let OURSELVES down and make sure we’re not a fad and others recognize our worth. This is the Pedro on MTV moment for black people.
