KOBE BEEF: Bryant’s Diva Tantrum Almost Scraps Spike Lee’s Docu-Film
Lakers Hoops Star refused to be a part of documentary, demanding creative control.
You might remember about a month ago I told you about Spike Lee‘s upcoming telepic “Kobe Doin’ Work.“ The TV-documentary which premiered this week at the Tribeca Film Festival is said to take fans behind the scenes before, during and after the game as Lee and his cinematographer, Matthew Libatique, cooled out with the oft-controversial Los Angeles Lakers legend.
Well as the New York Post’s Page Six reveals, much like the film’s star, the flick was not without its controversy. Apparently just prior to filming Bryant pulled the “diva crossover” and demanded to have creative control over the documentary. According to the report, the move put the productioin on hold.
Although Spike’s camp denies the allegation, Page Six reports:
Suddenly Bryant said he wouldn’t cooperate unless he was granted creative control, sources said. Lee tried several times to call Bryant, who wouldn’t accept his calls. So Lee, at the suggestion of ESPN broadcaster Stephen A. Smith, drove to Bryant’s house in a gated community, where Bryant refused to see him, sources said.
“It went so far that Lee had a last-minute plan to substitute Spurs star Tim Duncan for Kobe and make the whole documentary about Duncan,” said our source. But Kobe and Spike somehow worked it out, and Lee is being a good soldier promoting the Kobe picture, which screened Saturday night at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“Spike Lee completely yielded,” said one insider. “And at the start of the film, when Kobe arrives at the Staples Center and sees Spike with the camera, he gives him a big smile and thumbs up, showing he knows he won the battle.”
Although Lee, a hoops fanatic and life-long Knicks fan had already worked for months to get permission from Bryant, the Lakers team, coach Phil Jackson, the NBA and ESPN. And everyone wants to idolize Kobe? If indeed the allegations are true, sure you can still respect his basketball prowess but please admit to yourself that Kobe indeed is the Scumbag we all thought he was.

That is just how he comes accross to me whenever he is on tv. Even when he tries to say the right things, you can tell he is an arrogant asshole who thinks he is better than. Compare his relationship with his teamates to Lebron’s. It’s like night and day; Lebron knows he is the man, but he doesn’t wear it on his sleeve. Look at the way the Cavs have fun during game intros. With Kobe, you can tell his teamates BETTER kiss his ass, or else. As great a player as he is, I wouldn’t want him on my team.

Kobe is a dickhead. I’m sure he did have a diva moment. I’m not hatin, dude is nice on the court but he’s just too cocky. I’m sure he even thinks he’s better than Jordan. Thats probably why he changed his number to 24, so he can be one number above Jordan. But Shaq said it best when he said that Kobe can’t win without him….and he hasn’t. How does his ass taste Kobe? NO BITCH-ASS-NESS!!! LMAO!!!

Numbers ain’t got shit to do with his personilty. I said dude is nice on the court. Is he the best? I don’t think so. He hasn’t proven he can win a championship without Shaq. Maybe he’ll get a chance in the coming weeks. Aside from that, how can you support a dude that straight snitched on his teammate at the time? Remember how he couldn’t take the heat all by himself when that whole cheating scandal came about? He proved then that he’s a bitch and will say anything to make other niggas look bad. Good arguement Shaq!…U remember where Shaq was when he said that…HOME. I actually think that it made him look like a sucka for sayin that, while he was/is depreciating in value by the second. & if you believe that the ONLY way to determine if someone is a good basketball player is if they win a Chip, there’s nothin else for us to discuss…Where is Shaq anyway?

Look, Kobe is an outstanding basketball player and he’s got mad skills. Would I ever want him on the Mavs team? In a heart beat! But I don’t like his personality and thats why I wouldn’t doubt that he had this whole diva moment thats being discussed.
