? Of The Day: Was President Obama Right To Publicize Torture Memo?
In offering amnesty to CIA agents who ordered “enhanced interrogation” techniques are we turning a blind eye?
Late last week, news of the so-called “Bradbury” memos made headlines as having outlined the CIA’s “enhanced interrogation” techniques used to “question” individuals suspected of being involved in terrorism, many of which were being detained in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay Prison.
President Obama claims its important to make those previously classified policies public in effort to offer full disclosure to the American people, our allies and enemies alike that the US no longer subscribes to such extreme measures of interrogation. In doing so, President Obama is also issuing amnesty to CIA agents who ordered these “enhanced interrogation techniques” and stated that they should not be prosecuted as that’s not a road we want to go down. Do you think he was right to make the memo available to the public? Should these CIA agents have been held accountable?
FILED IN News

I believe he was right in making information available to the public. I don’t believe the foot soldiers should be held accountable. How about we start by prosecuting Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Rice?
But no one is being held accountable. It seems like this is becoming a theme for how we handle our dirt in this country. The most recent example of this is the whole steroid scandal. no one’s getting bagged for either of these.
Good point. S**t rolls downhill, though; and it’s always the last guy that gets caught. With “drugs” also. The Rockefeller drug laws in N.Y. state were designed to incarcerate the street-level hustler; we never hear about any higher ups being caught up. I can go on a rant on this subject! It seems like the “authorities” or the media is always looking to make one person the fall guy and then that is it. There is no more investigating or arresting up the chain.
I think that speaks to the code of the streets too. I think the whole philosophy behind it was to make the penalty so strong for the low levels cats that they’d roll on the bosses making the heat run up the ladder.
To my opinion interrogations needs to be strict and shall have its policies and guidelines. It might be helpful to find out what type of interrogations work with people of all types and it doesn’t matter who the individual is. Being placed in a situation is extremely cruel and there must be another solution to handle these issues. Placing the suspect completely with no clothing does not fix to get an honest answer back, there must be some other way. The CIA is only handling orders but they should not be punished for it but to informed that other measures are being sought.
I’m not a fan of putting war time info. on blast. Some things the public don’t need to know. Just do what needs to be done to keep this country safe is all I care about point blank. Remember, them other cats let heads roll literally.
