Oprah Joins Twitter, Aston Kutcher Beats CNN to 1 Million Followers
TV hosts Friday show dedicated to web 2.0 and microblogging. A transitional moment for web tech.
In perhaps a transitional moment for the Web 2.o movement, Oprah Winfrey the quintessential American female tastemaker has finally set up a Twitter account and reportedly will send her first “tweet,” Friday’s broadcast featuring Ashton Kutcher, the self proclaimed “King of Twitter.”
Oprah made the announcement yesterday (Thursday) via her Facebook page and is as of this post up over 100K followers. Not bad for 24 hours.  You too can follow oprah at twitter.com/Oprah but don’t expect her to immediately return the favor. Currently she’s only following 9 Tweeple including Shaquille O’Neal, political icon George Stephanopoulos, and fellow talk-show hosts Jimmy Fallon and Ellen Degeneres.
Though the news might seem insignificant consider Oprah unprecidented influence for molding the trends of American culture. Books she likes and pubs on “Oprah Book Club” become instant best sellers and lets be honest without her, we might not even know who Barack Obama is let alone host him in our White House. Â
Kutcher (twitter.com/aplusk) also made his own news today after he defeated CNN in a freindly popularity battle to see who would be the first to gain one million followers. Kutcher originally issued the challenge via a video blog posted on Tuesday. He vowed to “ding-dong ditch” CNN founder Ted Turner‘s house upon winning. No word on exactly what the hell that is or if he’s done it yet.
“I found it astonishing that one person can actually have as big of a voice online as what an entire media company can on Twitter,” Kutcher says in a video posted on Qik.com. “So I just thought that was just kind of an amazing comment on the state of our media, and I said that, if I beat CNN to 1 million viewers, then I would ding-dong ditch Ted Turner.”

Oh ok so this is true, good! I must be the only person on Twitter that is picky enough to block certain people when they try to follow me huh? twitter is addictive.
why would you do that? Why be on Twitter then?
No disrespect, but you are engaging in a little hyperbole with the Obama comment. He appeared on Oprah in 2005, one year AFTER he made the famous speech at the DNC. Plus, he was gaining so much popularity that he attracted Oprah, rather than the converse.
Good post, though.
But perhaps your knowledge of him extends from your being a Chicago native and continued interest in the political spectrum. The everyman who reads this blog may not have.
god for her, why don’t you wrap some vans Oprah or atleast return the call about it. could have ya show playing inside the units
It looks to me like you’ve just got a CSS problem, not a javascript problem. Adding:.textwidget{background: #FFFFFF;}to your stylesheet should give you the white background, but if you want it to look exactly like the other widgets, (with rouned corners and same fonts) you’ll need to make sure the textwidget class has the same css as sidebar ul.If you need a better explanation or just want me to fix it for you fill free to email me.
