Retiring Rapper Lupe Fiasco To Become a Mountain Climber?

Posted by Juan

Is he recruiting Justin Timberlake and African pop singer Kenna to do the same?

Lupe Fiasco

Rumored to-be retiring rapper, Lupe Fiasco is becoming a mountain climber…for a cause.  The Chicago native, who now has a lot of time on his hands following a recent retirement announcement, has agreed to climb Africa’s highest peak, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro in a curious effort to raise awareness for the country’s drinking water crisis.

Lupe allegedly developed the idea from Ethiopian pop singer Kenna, whose father has suffered a life of health issues due to a lack of clean drinking water.  The week long journey which will bring many dangers including falling hazards and altitude sickness.  But despite the fact that an estimated 10 climbers die every year attempting the Kilimanjaro summit, (19, 330 feet) first time climbers, Fiasco and his friends Kenna and singer Justin Timberlake welcome the challenge.

“My dad almost died as a child from waterborne diseases in Ethiopia, and he had talked to me about digging a well there,” Kenna recently told Elle Magazine. “I thought, ‘I have too many friends who would be concerned with the subject of clean water.’ Maybe I can help out.”

“I’m an adventure junkie,” Fiasco said. “Part of the motivation is beating Kenna to the top. Sabotaging his tent, taking the lining out of his coat, [and] lacing it with ants or something like that.”

The group will undergo some dangerous training in preparation for the expedition scheduled to take place later this year.

I respect alternative opinions, but you have to look at a few things 4PL: 1) The record industry promotes catchy, gimmick based mindless drivel that is designed for a specific time period. A lot of artists lack a certain “timeless” quality to their music because the “bars” have been lowered. 2) Lupe Fiasco actually has a more loyal following when you compare the ratios of album sales of other artists and those who really respect their craft. 3) I have been in your shoes trying to write something for attention on here. But it’s not a good look. We all look better when we critique folks in a fair spirit.

Please fwd the “ratios of album sales of other artists and those who really respect their craft” file in excel format to evorgleb@gmail.com I’d like to review it.
If he has this loyal following that you speak of why would he “retire” to go climb mountains!

You and all the rest of the Lupe fans should convince him to stay around put out more of that hot fire. Lupe’s lyrical but weak, he has no presence.

There’s no need to debate you since you are so disrespectful. I’ll allow my silence to “speak for me”. Why don’t you release a record? See, that’s the problem with being a hater. You spend so much time downing others, you forget to work on yourself. And the whole thing about the ratio comment, is about longevity and overall respect. I’m a publicist and I do research about this all the time. Just because Wheezy sold a million records doesn’t mean that folks really think he’s a good artist. They just buy records to fit in with their friends. (Real deep consumer behavior research that I don’t want to go into right now)
Thanks for disrespecting me in the process too, fam. Really shows why they don’t let you post on here that much. And ask Mike for my e-mail. He don’t have nothin’ to do with this.

well Lupe is not retiring..anymore. I happen to like Lupe a lot, his word-play is always on point and he always has a concept behind his music that tells a story and keep listeners interested. I guess when you don’t flash your diamond grills in your mouth and boost about the cars you drive all of that doesn’t matter and people write you off as wack, those who are closed minded and egotistical that is. But I am so over arguing about Hip Hop. Now I just state marketing research facts :-) . Cheers!

Back on topic,I think it is very amazing and encouraging that Lupe is doing work for charity.

As they old saying goes: “If you can dish it, you gotta be able to take it” I didn’t attack u personally so I dont know how you interperet my comments as disrespectful, but since you did I apologize. But I have to tell you, you sound extra sensitive.

As far as “why they don’t let me post….” I’m smart enough to recognize Pandoras box when I see it. I’m not touching that one. lol

In all seriousness though this is a forum for open exchange, I expressed an opinion in the form of jest, you expressed an opinion, I thought it was a fun exchange “battle of words” so to speak but obviously you took it to heart. As a person who runs a Blog urself u recognize that when u throw a comment out there on the web there’s a myriad of responses/comments that could come back, you’re not supposed to take those personal, especially when you’re the one who made it personal by attempting to chastise me with your first comment. I didn’t take that personal (although it was) I thought it came with the territory.

First personal insult was delivered by Zack, “I have been in your shoes trying to write something for attention on here” that’s personal. He said nothing directly to you, then u get mad? Then the “really shows why they don’t let you post on here that much?” uncalled for. no apology necessary 4P
