I’m sure the GOP pundits will be all over Obama for his etiquette during his first trip to the royal digs in England but I’ve gotta give him a salute for his originality.  During their meeting with the Royal Fam, the Obamas gave British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and his wife a selection of DVDs and personally inscribed iPod for Queen Elizabeth.

The iPod was loaded with the “ultimate Broadway” collection of 40 tunes which included some Barbra Streisand like music but I’m guessing that’s probably more Queen Liz’s speed anyway.  The unit also contained photos of the Queen’s state visit to the U.S. in 2007.

“It was a fun and very welcome gift,” a palace spokesman tells People.com about the iPod.  In return the queen gave them a silver-framed, signed photograph of herself and Prince Philip which is the self-absorbed memento traditionally given to visiting heads of state.  My guess is its making a B Line straight for the White House storage closet.  J/k.

  1. Zack says:

I don’t like their choice of gift. It shows that they have people on their staff who don’t like to do research. What is Queen Elizabeth gonna do with an iPod when she is known to have an archaic outlook on life? I’m really starting to hope that marketing companies aren’t the ones that are behind everything that the Obamas do. I mean, look at the fuss that everyone is making about the First Lady’s outfits.

  2. I’m glad they opened her eyes to technology and that the iPod complemented the other gift. I wasn’t sure what was on the iPod outside of the video of E2′s trip to the US. Glad it goes along with the signed songbook they gave her along with the iPod.

As for the GOP and the critics, they will get at the First Couple for any and every move they make. Even when they are doing something in kind they will pick at it just because.

Haven’t heard much about Michelle’s clothing outside of someone commenting over the fact that she wore the same pair of shoes twice. Talk about paying attention to detail…

  3. I’m hearing they may have broken all types of copy right laws but giving all that music to her.
