Nike ID Tourney: Celebrity Sneaker Designs Do Battle March Madness Style
2 Coasts, 32 Designers, 1 Champ
This is probably not news to my devout sneaker heads out there in the Nation like Lexicon167 but for the rest of you take a look at Nike’s ID Design Tournament. In the spirit of the NCAA’s March Madness tournament, Nike has enlisted the creativity of some of Hip Hop’s elite including The Root’s ?uestlove, HOT 97 New York’s Angie Martinez, DJ Clark Kent and others to compete head-to-head in a sneaker design tournament using Nike’s innovative ID Designing technology which lets the user design and buy their own kicks. For 5 straight weeks (we’re currently in week 2) these celebrity designers are asked to come up with their own flavor Nike branded kicks.
In week 1, designers were given the challenge of designing a Nike Dunk Hi that represented the greatest college basketball team of all time. If they were really paying attention there should have been a whole lot of UCLA blue because those teams from the late 60′s, early 70′s win hands down but this is fashion so we’ll let em slide.) This week they’re competing to design a Nike AM 90 that best exemplified their home coast.
Winners are determined by online voters. If you’d like to vote, buy some of the kicks or find out more, log on here.
