Rape of Women in Military Unfortunately Rising
not good at all, armed forces step ya game up and protect these female heroes
The Pentagon said it received 2,923 reports of sexual assault across the military in the 12 months ending Sept. 30 2008. That’s about a 9 percent increase over the totals reported the year before, but only a fraction of the crimes presumably being committed.
Among the cases reported, only a small number went to military courts, officials acknowledged.
The Pentagon office that collects the data estimates that only 10 percent to 20 percent of sexual assaults among members of the active duty military are reported _ a figure similar to estimates of reported cases in the civilian sphere.’
[. . .]
That increase includes a jump in cases from combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, to 165 from 131 the year before.
Congresswoman Jane Harman, a congressional critic of the military’s handling of sexual violence, said the statistics show the problem is still rampant.
“While the report shows modest improvement, we’re far from Mission Accomplished,” the California Democrat said in a statement. “Military women are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq.”

out the fools that need to be outed
maybe the increase comes from the fact that they are now banning porn in iraq….and the fact that there are a good number of married men having sex with single female soldiers…therefore as soon as one says i’m up and done wth ya they file reports on sexual asault. ‘m not saying that this isn’t a problem because it really is, but a lot of the problem come from the military AND the individual.
not buying it sorry wife. You sound a little naive.
I’ve been to Iraq three times, she’s telling the truth. People get deployed and get into relationships with people that they cant have and develope feelings (men and women). Soon as it time to go home and you gotta end shit, mawfuckahs get stupid. I was deployed for 15 months, that shit changes you in ways you cant imagine. Over the last 7 years I’ve deployed 4 times totaling 36 months, I’ve seen it all.
What the eff is your problem, lady? You honestly think that these women are crying RAPE because they’re pissed about being dumped? You have a lot of soul-searching to do. Because for every rape that DOES get reported are FOUR MORE THAT DON’T.
i respect that angle, however as u said its still a big TRUE problem
its called war and its atrocities!
One of my friends who is in the navy told me about that this happens in her unit as well. Sexual harrassment in her quarters are at an all time high. She even went into detail on how the things that go on in the armed forces are completely unheard of like dumping wastes in the water while at sea. People can’t expect people to be in the right state of mind when they are exposed to the most horrendous situations of war like killing children and watching friends die every other day.
and it’s like “wife” said there is a lot of sexual deprivation in the army that paired with a messed up mentality because of inhumane exposure can drive the most sane person to do something out of the ordinary like rape. There is also A LOT of infidelity by very married men and women in the army as told to me.
You can rationalize the reasons for the problem all that you want but no amount of rationalization will make it right. There is absolutely no excuse for rape. Trying to blame the issue on lack of porn, people not being able to have sex or having sex and then calling it off is insulting and tantamount to saying boys will be boys.
Female soldiers should be able to trust the men in their unit period.
No one is trying to rationalize anything. Taking something for face value is the reason why things can never get corrected and prevented from being repeated. you have to know the source of such behavior to prevent it from happening again. Every cause has an effect, these are the laws of the universe. Without a doubt, it is absolutley unacceptable for anyone to rape anyone it is barbaric behavior, however people need to ask why instead of casting stones. I guess I just have a different mindset on situations such as this.
If you want to look at face value then you need to address the mentality inherent in any occupation where men resent women being on their turf. Not all men of course but there are enough to create a pervasive mysogenistic mind set in the armed forces. The above postings did suggest that these rapes were happening because of sexual deprivation combined with the mental stress of a war zone environment. Rape is fundamentally about power. 1 in 3 women are being faced with sexual assault in the armed forces. In Iraq a female soldier is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire.
Women are being encouraged to keep quiet so as not to upset company morale.
Very few cases are being prosecuted and the punishment for those who are is usually a reduction in pay and rank. I don’t think letting felons into the military is helping. The statistics suggest a certain kind of institutionalized mindset and people need to stop thinking about it in terms of sex alone.
I’m not casting stones. I’m saying the statistics suggest a bigger picture than sexual deprivation coupled with poor mental health. This isn’t a new issue. Remember tailhook?
Check this out. No matter what you think (unless you honestly hate women and don’t think they should be in the military) this is going to piss you off.

What do you expect when you put a bunch of sexually frustrated men in a desert for 15 months with a small percentage of women??
