BUSINESS MATTERS: Nick Cannon New Chair and Development Consultant for TEENick
“Just call me TEENIck Cannon”
Have you noticed that a lot of hip hop’s elites have actually been seeking real jobs within the industry? I could be wrong but it seems the stormy economic climate has forced hip hop to start to seek shelter under more traditional 9 to 5′s and steadier pay checks. Everyone from The Roots with Jimmy Fallon, to Jim Jones at Koch to
Tyrese and Bow Wow concentrating on movies to Kanye interning at Louis Vutton or Raf Simmons, its seems that Hip Hop is abandoning ship. And while Nick Cannon has always been a diversified entertainer he is heading back to his television roots to once again join the Viacom/ Nickelodeon family as Honorary Chair and Development Consultant for TEENick.
Under the new gig, over the next two years, Cannon will become the face of the new network both in-front and behind the cameras. As his first course of business and in anticipation of the network’s premier in September, Cannon will host TEENick’s innagural Halo Awards. Cannon of course has become very familiar to young TV/ MTV audiences over the years most recently with the popular Wildin Out variety show.
“I started my career here at Nickelodeon and am so excited to be back, serving as an integral part of TEENick as the in-house voice and representative for teens everywhere,” Cannon explained. “TEENick is their network and I am here to make sure this is an ultimate destination for and about them.”
With the economy nosedive and his honeymoon period wearing off I’m sure it became apparent to Cannon that it was time to go out and get another gig to support his very high maintenence bride. Good work!
