College 101

Yetserday HN and Rushacard teamed up with A.S.A.P. (Association for the Social Advancement of People) to help with their College 101 program which takes place @Stony Brook University in Suffolk County NY. The goal of College 101 is to teach young urban youth the importance of a college education, the proper steps needed to attend college, and what to expect when you get there. The program included several different workshops for the young students including admissions/financial aid/Clubs and orginizations/EOP.

A major component of this years program was finacial literacy/fiscal responsibility amongst young people, so Highbrid Nation and RushCard chipped in to handle the Financial Literacy workshop. The students were informed about the importance of being financially literate and fiscally responsible, credit, and how they can manage their money utilizing tools such as  the pre paid RushCard. There were informational booths where students could learn about RushCard and how to start acting responsibly with their money. They were also able to use the onsite laptops to sign up for a RushCard  and browse Highbrid Nation as well. There was also a credit seminar given to the students were they learned about the importance of having good credit and how they can begin to establish their credit through RushCard’s Money Managemnet tools which include credit counseling.

Highbrid Nation also had a Contest where students who signed up for a Prepaid RushCard were entered for a chance to win an Olympus Digital Camera. The drawing for the Contest winner was done this morning at the Highbrid Offices and were happy to announce that the winner of the Olympus Digital Camera is NIKITA MCINTYRE! Nikita has been notified and arrangements are being made for her to pick up her prize.

The College 101 program is extremely important and neccessary and Highbrid Nation and Rushcard were proud to make significant contirbutions to assist in the growth of the program. College 101 will be going Citywide in September of this year. It’s our hope that we can continue to make significant contributions to the expanded program as well.

  2. Natti says:

It is so important to teach the youth about credit and how to use it properly. prepaid cards teach you to use what you have and credit cards teach you to use what you dont have and go buck wild with it. kudos to those who care and take time to show it.

  3. Juan says:

These programs are much better than the way I learned about credit was by my pops telling me “DON’T ANSWER THE PHONE!”

  4. This is a good look, I wish I was there to boost the H support.

I try not boast blkruby, we do these things to give back not for the recognition but I’ll put something in there to plug CBSBB. Look for that early next week. Thanks again for the opportunity.

It’s not about boasting, you do a lot and it’s wonderful. People always get recognized for the bad they do and not enough of the good they do.
