Engadget’s Joshua Topolsky Demo’s Palm’s ‘iPhone Killer’
Tech website boss features Palm Pre live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
Alright, Alright…I know. I’ve been blogging waaay too much about Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I promise this will be my last for a while. I’ll also reserve any further negative/judgmental statements about the show until at least Thursday as I am currently fasting to slay my inner demons as per Jay Electronica (and what has now become P. Diddy and I guess the rest of hip hop.) Never knew it’d be cool to not eat.
Anyway, last night, Jimmy had Engadget’s Joshua Topolsky on as a guests and he brought with him the latest phone to be labeled the Apple iPhone killer, Palm’s Pre.
The “iPhone Killer” is a moniker that has been applied to quite a few gadgets, most recently Blackberry’s Storm which totally fell flat. Its kind of like calling a basketball player the next Jordan. Pretty tough shoes to fill. None the less I’m pretty hyped about this Palm. I absolutely LOVE my Treo and its perfect for the business we’re in. Its like an office in your pocket but its heavy and has become a bit of a dinosaur as compared to the current technology available with other phones. Although I had heard about the Palm Pre on tech blogs, I never put much stock in it until I saw last night’s live demonstration. This is a must cop for me and I would imagine all Treo lovers. The one major speed bump is that its on the inferior Sprint network but eventually should be made available for Verizon and its powerful 3G.

That is a big leap from the current Treo that I have. It doesn’t seem all that slow… Maybe they are on the current Sprint “Now” network. It is suppose to be so much better. And perhaps the later models will go on this WiMax network Sprint (and a couple of other partners) are building.
Yeh Sprint has a really powerful mobile internet network being built that is supposed to be more powerful than anything Verizon or anyone else has. That along with the Pre are the baskets that Sprint is putting all its eggs in. I recently bought a bunch of shares in both Palm and Sprint and this was before they anounced the Pre. I’ve already made a nice profit from just the anouncement of this new phone.
