Russell Simmons is Interviewed About Hip-Hop by Mike Huckabee
Former Presidential Hopeful goes in on the Godfather of Hip-Hop
We’re all well aware of Bill O’Reilly and his hard on for hip hop artists and the culture in general. Lately he and Russell Simmons have been going back and forth about the culture, O’Reilly bashing and Simmons defending. Finally Fox News let Russ come on the air and speak with Mike Huckabee. If you remember Huckabee was at one time thought of as the front runner for the Republican nomination for president. Of Course this fell through and he went back to his old conservative stomping ground of Fox News. Suprisingly Huckabee’s interview is an extremely fair on w/legitimate questions about Hip-Hop, its current state of mass commercialism and its social impacts on todays youth. Simmons answers some questions, circles around others, and of course promotes his initiatives. Overall the interview was a good one fair and balanced which is a shocker coming from Fox News. I think Russel Simmons is a bit outdated on this stuff, I mean, he has a record label okay, but still, he’s not with the new school people; I remember on the Run’s House show, they brought in the kids to make his clothing line look more new school because people were saying Phat Farm was for old men.
I was not surprised at all by the “balanced” nature of the interview. This is pretty normal for Huckabee, ask provocative questions and challenge people minus the shout match. Also given Huckabee actually listens to music I was not surprised he was respectful of Hip-Hops musical culture and impact on society.
