I like her, she has a natural beauty

Ya know, I’ve always tried to like India, don’t get me wrong, but I do have a bit of a problem with her approach. She CHOOSES to be natural, and that’s all good. It’s just that sometimes I’ve felt like she has a problem with the way she looks more so than others. I mean it seems like a good portion of her songs highlight her looks versus others. For example, “I’m not light skinned, I don’t have weave, I don’t process my hair, etc etc.” All I’m saying is, be proud of who or what you are without bringing the “other” element into the equation. It’s like a hamburger commercial. “Ours tastes better than theirs!” Why not just say, “Our hamburger is good, we think you’ll like it”? Hope I haven’t lost you guys.

I think she does it more so for her target audience and her fans. As women (ahem, black women) living in a European driven society, some women are not as confident in their skins so sometimes the need for a song that would uplift a look that is not the ordinary like the songs india puts out is very important. I have to disagree with the fact that she’s putting down other people who choose to live their lives the way they do I think she is bringing forth how happy she is living the life she does and inspiring others that go down the same path.

I don’t see flat chest and booty ladies feel offended when fergie spoke about her supposed humps

I never said she put others down. I said that SHE seemed to be more concerned with her looks (dark, natural, etc.) than others were. Maybe the hamburger analogy was off base, I dunno.I kinda like her vibe, I just have felt like SHE brought more attention to her looks than other folks have. It’s other “natural” sistas out there, (Jill Scott, Lina) that don’t go in this direction. I ain’t bashin’ India, I’m just sayin’……….

I ttoally disagree with joebloe!! She NEVER bring the other element in the equation in her songs!! What are you talking about? There is NO song in which she talks about light skin!! She has a song called “Brown skin” but she doesn’t put light skin down! I don’t think you have listened to her songs!! And she has another song “I am not my hair” in which she talks about the fact that she is not her hair and that everyone can choose to wear their hair the way they want!! Yes, she seems to be someone who have had issues with her looks, but it’s totally normal in a society that tells you that you have to be light-kinned, blonde, or have straight hair in ordder to be beautiful!!

“Yes, she seems to be someone who have had issues with her looks, but it’s totally normal in a society that tells you that you have to be light-kinned, blonde, or have straight hair in ordder to be beautiful!!” WTF!!?? That ain’t normal, no matter how you spin it! Like I said earlier, I personally feel like she has or has had in the past, some issues about how she looks. And SHE seems to focus on it more than others. I still like her though! I’m jus’ sayin’!
