News Corp Chair, Murdoch Issues Apology For Cartoon
“Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted”
The Chairman of News Corp, parent company of the New York Post, Rupert Murdoch, personally apologized today what the Highbrid Nation debated was a racist cartoon published by the newspaper.
“Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted,” said the statement from Murdoch. “I can assure you — without a doubt — that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation.
“It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such. We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard, and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community.”
This apology comes a week after the initial cartoon publish date. So is it too little to late? Does this admission of guilt admonish the paper of any blame or contrarily is it a referendum to the fact the paper shouldn’t have published the cartoon in the first place?
