Big ups and mega homage.  Jazz legend Duke Ellington is the first African-American to appear on an American coin, the U.S. Mint says in introducing the latest in its line of state-themed quarters.  Good site below has more

  1. For some time now people have been trying to get MLK on the one dollar coin but nothing yet.

    mlk? there are more and other peple who are just as important if not more important than him who should be on a coin. harriet tubman, nat turner are a few.

  4. I just read that Duke actually isn’t the first black on a coin. this first was on Missouri’s quarter which features louis, clark and a slave named York.
