Martin Lawrence To Re-Make ‘Coming To America’ In Reverse?
Comedian/ Actor producing new film “Back to America”
They say if it aint broke, don’t fix it. Martin Lawrence doesn’t care about leaving well enough alone. He is plotting to produce and star in a new film called “Back To America,” a play on Eddie Murphy‘s cult classic “Coming To America,” but in reverse.
According to Empire Online, “Back To America” allegedly will feature a working-class guy from Queens who discovers he secretly has been heir to the thrown of an African country and must travel there to reclaim his birthright. Lawrence developed the concept and will presumably take the lead but it has yet to be confirmed.
It sounds interesting but with “Coming To America” being such at classic its a tough act to follow even 21 years after the original. If the new storyline doesn’t look to parody the orignal too closely it might actually be interesting.

I’m sure it’ll be funny, however as Juan stated “Coming to America” is a classic movie.

Yeah I’m with you. Martin’s humor is too goofy. I think he’s going to need to come straight and focus on creating humor in the dialog rather than his faces.

Well let me tell you guys! This movie will be a flop.There is no way that it will go over like the original, without a great cast. Martin is funny as hell, but it will take alot of talent to make it be a thumbs up.GOOD LUCK MARTIN , JUST GET SOME GOOD CO-STARS, AND A VERY SEXY LADY TO PLAY YOUR QUEEN LIKE LISA RAE

Lol Nooooooooo he needs a cast like this ( Kevin hart as simmie, the girl Zoe from movie such as guess who, colombiana, death and a funera,etc that’s the girl he will fall back in love with,and instead on them being at a burger joint the will be at a chicken spot and ya boy Curtis payne from house of payne should be the owner and change up the barbed and put Kat williamsas one of the barbers
Ehhhhh, i dunno how I feel about this one. I have a thing about touching classics. This one is too much of a jem to mess with. Even with a credible dude like Martin. I agree with Zack that he doesn’t have that comedic presence that he did at his peak and that might throw things off. Hollywood needs to stop being lazy and start taking risks again. Why not create ANOTHER ORIGINAL classic instead of trying to make a few $$$ off of old ones.

no one said it would out the original, it’ll be a hit but the 2nd hit feel me.
I think this is going to be a flop if Martin Lawrence stars in it. Martin is too overrated and over the top. This is a classic and should be left alone. If Martin wants to do a remake of the movie, he should be behind the scenes either producing or directing but get a fresh face and younger actor because when the original was done, Eddie Murphy was still young and in his prime. Even getting Eddie Murphy to cameo can see the movie potentially succeeding otherwise if it’s going to be attempted with Martin Lawrence being the lead and with the current synopsis…..I SEE RAZZIES IN THE FUTURE!!
