M.C. Hammer is the latest star to secure his own reality show.  A&E has announced the launch of it new half-hour series, “Hammertime” which is said follow Hammer, his wife of 23 years and five children.

The series which Executive producer J.D. Roth describes as an unscripted “Cosby Show” is slated to premier the first of 11 episodes later this year.  Hammer has been offered reality shows before. Roth said he told the rap star he wanted to focus on his future rather than the past.

“I really wanted to tell the future of MC Hammer,” Roth said. “What kind of dad is he? Here’s a dad with five kids, married to the same woman for more than 23 years, living in the same place where he grew up and going to church every Sunday,” Roth said. “He’s had his ups and downs, and it’s what makes him such a character you root for.”

An unscripted Cosby Show?  I thought we already had that with Runs House?  Oh wait…that’s very scripted isn’t it.

A&E is actually one of my favorite networks minus DOG the Bounty Hunter who still pisses me off from his racist comments. They have some interesting reality shows like The First 48, Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force, Rookies and Intervention.  I’ve become a fan of Hammer in his later years.  He seems to be a pretty down to earth dude and still trying to make it happen on a more mature yet low key level not to mention he’s a Twitterhead with close to 87K followers.  So I wish him well in his new endeavor although I might have to pass on the first few episodes to see what the critics say before tuning in.
