Filmmaker John Singleton Directs 81st Oscar Awards Trailer
Boyz in the Hood Director’s gig an Obama bone?
Filmmaker John Singleton has only been nominated for an Oscar once for his screenwriting prowess on the film “Boyz in the Hood” However The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has entrusted him with directing the trailer for the 2009 Oscars to be held on Feb. 22 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.
The filmmaker’s 31-second clip is entitled “so big you can see it from space” and is currently airing in more than 11,000 theaters around the country.
While a small feat by some standards, it may be an indication of the times. With an African American ascending to the highest position in politics perhaps its time that the Academy which has had an unfortunate history of shutting out African Americans recognize the achievements and contributions of black filmmakers. Unfortunately we’ve begun to see quite a few of these token nods lately and its starting to make my skin crawl a bit. Are we not worthy of these accomplishments based on merit?

You’re not black, so what does it matter to you?
I’m kidding. I completely agree with you. In fact, that’s my next post for my PR blog. You’ll see it on Facebook soon, in case you don’t remember the address.
can’t wait…I like the facebook aspect of things though.
thats wzup
This is what im talking about!!
CNN hiring DL Hughley
The Republican party apointing that coon
Blogovich appointing Ronald Burris (didnt work)
the list friggin goes on.
It pisses me off! I know as a black man i should be happy, but it pisses me off. they are only doing it becuase being black is cool by MUCH LARGER STANDARDS than that of pop culture. I’ve been waiting for someone else to find this shit outrageous. Maybe im wrong for thinking like that, i’ve been wrong before. But this is my opinion, and i get f*cking pissed off when i see white people appointing Blacks to positions based on a “sign of the times”. Dun know these black people are appointed with STRINGS ATTACHED. that Ronald Burris dude that blagovich appointed was FOR SURE on a conditional basis. the thing is, if these black people are good enough now, that means they were good enough before. That means we’ve overlooked several that were good enough. that means white people need to be overthrown. (ok ok ok, i went too far on the overthrowing thing, but you get my point, lol).
oh, and im studying PR right now at Uni of Toronto.
I wouldnt mind reading the PR blog that Zack has going on.
link pls.
I linked it. Check me out!
hooooooold on. I’m not done.
Did you see John McCain at the All Star game?
What the hell was he doing there? He knows nobody in there voted for his ass. Sure, he’s the Senator of Arizona, and they were in Pheonix.
Lets say he actually DOES give a shit about these ball players and their sport. Dun know he would have been in a private box somewhere hiding out.
Then again, PR is PR, and the GOP prolly thinks its a great idea to put him out there to increase relations with negros.
There’s more stuff that upsets me.
I’m an upset person.
I apologize for defecating on your post. I’ll stop.
Boy you people always stay off base with your snide lil comments. John is and will always be part of the film industry. In the year 2005 he produced a movie that won an oscar for best soundtrack. Also the movie made a dollar out of fifteen cents and was critically acclaimed. So don’t forget the fact that John was doing his thing before Obamanation came on the scene.
John has also made more with his films than the obamanation did in his tricked out presidential campaign. Y’all have got to try and keep wid it.
P.S. I left out the word money in my previous comment. Can you find it?
