Watching Black History: President George W. Bush Visits Slave House
President George W. Bush visits the “Slave House” in Senegal, invoking America’s bloody history in the African slave trade.
We all know that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” right? That may or may not be true depending on who you ask and whether that person is black or not. However during his time in office, Bush did try to make nice with black people (though that whole Katrina thing will likely make sure that never happens). One of the things Bush did while in office was visit the slave houses in Senegal. During his trip he got to see the actual quarters that Africans stayed in before getting shipped across the Atlantic to become slave. One of the things that some were hoping for that did not happen during the visit was Bush apologizing to African-Americans for slavery on behalf of the United States.
So was that trip a missed chance to apologize for slavery. And is that something a sitting president should do. It’ll likely be something that Obama will be asked to. Should he and would it even matter?
FILED IN Need to Know, Video

It would have a totaly different meaning for Obama to apollogize for slavery. Thats like the guy that got shot in the face by Chaney Apollogizing for standing beside him when he fired. Obama would be standing there to proof of how far we have come as black america. If you look but at Bush’s entire term he has never accepted fault even in his last enter veiws when asked would you have done anything differently he say no and use the excuse for the american people. Obama his already addmitted fault to two of the people he elected to his cabinet. He knows you learn from your mistake the president is human unlike bush that blindly beleives he done well and made no mistakes
Dont forget, though Obama is black is not the decendant of slaves and since his mom was white there is a chance that he may actually be the decendant of slave owners
This is an interesting choice. While I see the significance, it is BLACK history in the American sense its not the traditional Rosa Parks-esque type we’re used to.
.
I sort of remember this trip. Watching the video the “apology” thing did strike a cord with me as I’m sure it did with you. Apologizing for slavery isn’t necessary and honestly won’t effect anyone one way or the other. I think what WILL be embarrassing is if Obama is the first to do so. I personally think he’ll say more in his silence than he would in his speech.
Speaking of George W. Bush:
George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).
George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.
And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.
Many people know what Bush did.
And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.
Bush was absolute evil.
Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.
Bush is a psychological prisoner.
Bush has a lot to worry about.
Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.
In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memory so it never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.
