Remembering the Tragic Story of Hip Hop’s Sam Kellerman

Posted by Juan

Check out Sam and his Brother, Boxing Analyst Max Kellerman’s rap music video together “Young Man Rumble”

Max kellerman

I’ve always been a big fan of Cable Access TV.  The freedom of not being constricted by rules and more importantly the FCC has always added an extra element of freedom of expression that I find appealing.  From time to time you find hidden gems or occasionally a star in the making.

A while back Manhattan (NY) had a live cable access show called the “Max Kellerman Show.”  Boxing fans of course are familiar with Max as a former ESPN analyst who now does the big fights on HBO.  When Max left cable access he handed the reigns to his younger brother Sam Kellerman.

From early it was easy to see Sam had it all.  Far more talented than his older brother, Sam knew his sports and his show touched on topics ranging from his beloved Yankees to his favorite music genre, Hip Hop and from sex and interracial relationships.  He was a budding talk superstar.  However in 2006 Sam was murdered by an up-and-coming boxer that Sam was hosting at his Manhattan home.  A very sad, sad, story.

Way prior to Max’s success, he and Sam formed a young rap group and were signed to Columbia Records in 1994.  I dug up this music video called “Young Man Rumble” which is appropriately boxing themed of the two as a rap duo way back in the day.  Rest in peace Sam…we miss you.

Sam was killed in LA in October of ’04, not 2006 in Manhattan. He moved from NYC to LA in 2003 and died a year later.

I think his show was an outlet for everyone individually in their own way. Like you said they’re will never be another and to think Manhattan Cable access. He should have been on NBC.
