MARKETING MATTERS: West Coast Rapper Damani Promotes Signature Shoe in “My Adiddas” Video
Ugly kicks but hell of a good look for an unsigned artist
Back in 2007 Snoop Dogg protege and Western Union unsigned rapper Damani shocked the hip hop marketing world by signing a deal with international shoe apparel company Adidas for his own signature shoe even before he had a deal with a major recording label. The marketing coup was part of the brand’s initiative to collaborate with people from the corporate and artistic world. The end result was this EQT Low “Damani”.
While these kicks are admittedly hideous, it is most certainly a good look for any blossoming emcee to have his own signature shoe. These kicks are accented with Damani’s logo and slogan, “Congratulations Player” in the back which is really the only nice touch. While they’ve been out for a while, Damani just released this very low budget music video “My Adidas.” A spoof off of Run DMC’s 80′s international cult hit by the same name.
