BREAKING NEWS: Live Nation/ Ticketmaster Merger Imminent

Posted by Juan

Could Jay-Z with his 360 Deal Cash In on the Mega Merger?

Jay Live Nation

Live Nation and Ticketmaster are reportedly very late in negotiations on a proposed merger pending board approval.  According to the Wall Street Journal talks of the merger heated up after the ticketing contract between the two companies ended at the beginning of the year.

There had been some discussion towards the end of 2008 that Live was developing their own ticketing service to replace and compete with Ticketmaster however the biggest concert promoter in the world instead appears to be focused on merging with Ticketmaster, the biggest ticketing company in the world to form a single company called Live Nation Ticketmaster.

The deal reportedly would be a 50/50 merget in which no cash would change hands.  This is significant as we all know about Jay-Z now famed $150 Million 360 deal.  Although he wouldn’t immediately cash in like 50 Cent did with Vitamin Water it could pay extraordinaru future dividend on his ownership in the company.

By controlling venues, ticketing, concert revenues and Jay-Z and other’s record labels the new company could potentially control every aspect of the music experience from the artist to the consumer.  This however could lead to a huge battle once the antitrust lawyers come knocking.

More on this as it develops.  Remember you heard it here first.

You read the Wall Street Journal? Just kidding. I’m sure you read it for the comics. But on a serious note, I’m very sure that anti-trust lawyers will be working overtime on this one. Good find, Tiger Woods!
