UPDATE: Baker, Ted Kefalinos of Lafayette French Pastry who originally said he didn’t see anything offensive about the cookies or their name has, as K. Karboso changed his tune. After receiving angry calls and death threats, he now claims to feel terrible about the cookies and has “apologized” to New Yorkers.

That’s the best you can do? Jeeze…enough on this cat already.

For those of you who aren’t privileged enough to live in the big apple   you probably aren’t familiar with FOX 5 News‘ “Shame On You” segment.  Every week (I believe) they bring in their undercover cameras to expose some jerk whose screwing some honest taxpaying citizen.

Highbrid Nation Hall Of Famer, Urban Thought posted this clip on his blog Urban Observation from this week’s Shame On You segment in which a Greenwich Village Baker was selling cookies that he was promoting as “Drunken Negro Face Cookies.”  Naturally at a time when our country is so focused on race these confections raised the eyebrows of some of his patrons. As you’ll see in the clip the owner oddly enough admits that he even changed the name of the cookie on inauguration Tuesday to “honor” our new president.

The ironic thing about the story is that Greenwich aka “The Village” is one of Americas most liberal neighborhoods and is considered by many to be a safe haven for all alternative lifestyles so its surprising how this behavior would slip through the cracks.

What do you think?  Is this a classic case of bigotry or just an idiot trying to be controversial in effort to drum  up pub?  Is this pent up anger from a man whose candidate did NOT win the white house?  Perhaps we should call these soar loser cookies.
