Kanye Disrespcts MLK: Calls Himself ‘Martin Louis The King, Jr.’
Is it me or video blogging the worst thing to happen to Hip Hop Divas?
A message from kwest on Vimeo.
Is not the whole Rapper choosing a cleaver nickname to emulate an icon held in high esteem bit a little played out? Perhaps the most classic and in hindsight the most disrespectful example of this Jay-Z‘s adoption of “HOV.” We’ve been using it interchangeably for so long that we often don’t stop to think of exactly what we’re saying.
Most recently Diddy’s been on his whole Ciroc Obama bit and now Kanye. Perhaps its the pompous diva attitude with which Kanye always seems to present himself but this is clearly disrespectful of Dr. King, an icon, a hero. What qualities has Mr. West held true that could be deemed consistent with his playtime namesake? NONE! This trend is wack, its been done time to move on. Yes Hip Hop has been built on the ideology of sampling and the remix but this takes the concept way to far. Hov did it the best and now its time to turn the page.

THERE’S A NEW NICKNAME FOR YOU! How about Kanye Streisand?
i call myself Thinjamin Franklin. its just a moniker. another rapper thing. just yeezy being yeezy.
No, this nig should be called Martha Loser Queen. Get him, Juan!
damn what Yay do to yall?
Aight let me break this one down for you Ca$h. I love Kanye as an artist. I probably give him the most props of the contributors here on the Nation. His attitude sucks though. This whole arrogant “swagga” is very short lived. What ever happened to being humble? Its gotten to the point where he’s more identified by his bright colors, airport tantrums and silly antics than his soulful music. I go back and listen to college dropout sometimes and it really inspires me…listen to “last call.” But where did he go…why couldn’t he stay humble. Its all a sideshow with this kid.
.
Theres a nickname Sideshow ‘Ye
if you been on the bench in the first half…aint you gon’ shoot the jay soon as u get the rock when youi get in the game….alll that to say i fell like Yay was doin the humble thing and niggas wasn’t givin props. hell sometime you gotta take your props. and say im the shit bitch. thas where yay be comin from. how can you say how or why a nigga should act how they act until you walk a mile in some Air Yeezys or LV boat shoes?
Boat shoes exactly. I could understand the attitude if he were able to keep the heat on his subsequent projects. Yes Graduation sold a gazillion records but in the end it didn’t match the quality of “College Dropout.” He’s fallen off while his crooked mouth continues to spew stupidity.
i think yall r outta ur minds. that man made his music to surpass just being on the charts to sell. his music is in movies, tv shows, commercials etc. Do you kno how far that goes and WHERE it goes?!! I dnt really think yall understand whats goin on here and what he is doing. staying humble…hm. i think his music speaks volumes to being humble. when you got or GET that kind of attention as a star, certain things arent privy to you any more. like privacy, your personal space (a la julia roberts tantrum). i dnt give a crap what he does. as long as he keeps makin ill a$$ed music and keeps his a$$ outta jail, we cool. ll support him. and, even he dont make ill music(some say 808s) and keep his a$$ outta jail( the UK incident) ima still support him and not be hyper critical of him.
touche’ baybay.
i agree.
There’s plenty of cats who wouldn’t mind Kanye’s problems. So if he says some dumb shyt, then he needs to man up and face the consequences. Nuff said.
LMAO!!!! at “Martha Loser Queen”…..coooooooooold blooooooooooded
he aint fell off. boy just got balls now. he aiont tryn to get everybody to like him now. college dropout was the lemme get the world on my jock album. now its like me the people that really matter awready like me so imma say what i want. you cant really judge album by quality cuz thats relative. i think its quality just hit a different note. i stunted on my graduation night.
Please refer to the up and coming producer segment of him in the Source circa September 2000. Everything he was talking then was real. BTW he was rocking a jersey. He was humble and you could feel him and it spoke through his music….now he’s a clown. Clown prince of rap. I respect his music all this other nonsense is stupid…including his last album.
in 2000 jerseys were in style. why he a clown cuz he dress fly? and finally found his niche’. the last album was his most creative work to date. you just hard on the man cuz maybe you secretly wish to be like him.
that humble shit works for so long. if common would say im the shit bitch in one song. guarantee he would be held in more high regard than he already is.
then: u right he was humble. but niggas took it for granted.
now: he’s the epitome of doing what u want.
some people don’t like it especially people who can’t or choose not to express thmeselves or are to shy to do what they really fell.
i am the “OTHER” who always does what he wants so i can RESPECT a man who does the same. whethrer the end result is good or bad.
Kanye is just having a little temper tantrum. He wasn’t too pleased with the whole bisexual porn rumor that was circulating around and now he just wants to give everyone something to talk about. You know what helps me ignore Kanye when he goes on his arrogant rants? I think back to when Damon Dash did MTV Cribs and Kanye was following Damon around like a kitten thirsty for milk..if you haven’t seen it check it out, it will tickle you.
today i’m moppin floors/next week its the fries.
Look, Kanye is dope. We all know it. But the truth is that he doesnt’ know how to walk the fine line between hip-hop arrogance and str8 being a clown. I’m all for him telling the industry “I’ve got REAL talent and I know it, even if I don’t get all the recognition I deserve” but he’s run astray from that. He’s really on some “fuck everybody, I’m the shit, and whatever I do is dope” fuckery and he looks a lil crazy for it. I’m sorry but you can have all the talent in the world, that doesn’t mean EVERY idea u have or EVERY thing you touch is gold. Ye’ is human and he needs to realize that. Not EVERYTHING he does is the greatest so why should we act like it is? Cause he says so? Get out of here!
It was his hunger and humbleness that got him where he is. The only reason why all this extra shit he’s doing has not ended his career yet is cause the kids are keeping him afloat and care about what he has to say. he found a way to keep their attention span by putting himself out there and outtin on a show. Cause I know most true 9and mature) fans of hip hop are getting turned off by it. make the musiq, and shut the hell up. It will speak for itself.
Finally…somebody with some sense! We can always count on Deeny to bring some truth to HN.
Bravo as always you keep coming with the great points. I think it is the youth that has lowered artists standards. They appeal to them because in the end they support their music…however that doesn’t make the music good. A platinum album doesn’t make an artist a success it just means someone is paying attention.
thats just one perspective (Deeny) or one view and we all have them. Some of its opinionated some of it may be truth. But we’ll never really kno why he does what he does until he says so, right?! ok then.
plus, i dnt see how he is disrespecting MLK by callin himself something close to MLK. Both men had something to offer the public via verbage. So, if Martin never opened him mouth or and/or marched would we kno of him at all?? If Kanye never made music, would we kno of him?? No. he wantes to be viewed as someone great in his eyes, so what if he does take the name and make it fit his idea of greatness. I do believe he CAN and HAS backed that idea up. Its up to you to listen or not. every star goes thru a ruff patch some go thru small ones in a short time. some one very big one over a long period of time. I dnt understand why yall so critical of him.. black folks forever critical of ea other when a flame of success warms their a$$es.
Certain things/people deserve respect! I’m sorry but a lot of these hip hop cats need to realize that! We’re so quick to forgive ignorant shit and charge it to hip/hop. It’s still ignorant and disrespectful! Someone like MLK is BIGGER than whatever rapper/artist can achieve (which lets be real, most of the time is only big bank account and not something benifiting black people as a whole for generations to come)so we should treat him as such. And that goes for any significant MAN or EVENT that made such an impact on our lives. Associating money and popularity with changing a nation, getting killed because of what your dream for a better america entailed is WRONG. PERIOD. 9/11—off limits. Malcom X—off limits. F-it! OBAMA—off limits. I’m tired of cats using his name to compare what ignorant crap they have going on. We need to have some type or reverance for shit. I’m pretty sure if someone said something like “eatin niggas like ‘Pun” the hip-hop heads would cry foul! It’s sad.
Wow! Shots across the bow right and left. Hitting em hard. Deeny is the champ. You’re so right. Macika, you’re speaking blasphemy if you compare MLK to ML…’YE.
.
Deeny is right we need to do as all cultures do and hold things sacred and held in high esteem. We devalue our heroes and accomplishments by sullying their memory with niggerdom. That’s real talk.
deeny, respect!!
I do feel he bogus but as long as it was a comment and not actually something hes carrying over to mainstream hes aight..people always take interview comments out of hand..I think him and wayne on a higher level by taking a move towards rock and roll ..we were the ones who started it why let white people keep all the acomplishments like they do for every other great invention the black man came with
whatever. how is that “ni@@erdom” if he is combining his come-up-ance with cleverness/wittiness to someone who is obviously of importance to him…Louis Vuitton and Martin Luther King? as i said, all had/ve something to say but took diff roads to be heard. how it influences people is how they apply what they heard to their lives. U can be critical of me all you want. i am a rapper/artist/producer. i dnt have a big bank account. im strugglin just like you and the man next to ya, kid. im doing what i can to impact my generation/my fathers generation/my nephews generation and my daughters!! if you dont like the comparisons so be it but get used to it! it aint goin no where. if that was HIS dream and there’s $$ in it along with popularity, what r u gonna do?? tell him he cant dream no more?! as i do recall part of MLKs dream was for ALL of us to be a better people. Ye being a better person by showing others that you can make it. Dont you dream of ‘making it’?? Ok then. Can i ask you something? Is your ass still warm??
Martin Louis the King, Jr. The Louis Vuitton Don. its a moniker, people. calm the hell down! I see it as he is callin himself an underling to Louis Vuitton hence the Jr. I also believe that some of yall be takin these linx a lil too far. gettin all in a tizzy n sh!t! i entertain some of yall bc i get bored wrkin late nite.
If ur an artist that u live or live for.u do it for yur self nd not others unless u choose too.but the music reflects the artist feelings nd the mindset so if u can’t take wat he sayn get on sumbody else nd ride thy bac
breath
a name is a name, he didnt say anything derogatory towards his name. its okay to let people have fun. how bout we spend more time getting our paper up so we can at least be noticed and stop hating and cause stupid controversy over nothing.
your ignorance is the reason I call this druid season, think again no comparison ever, MLK was heterosexual
BONG! (c) Bobby Digital lol
ah, so Kanye is ‘gay’ now?! am i understanding u correctly??
