Inauguration Bashment: This Time Obama Gives US a Reason To Celebrate
From our Guest Blogger Munika
While we are still watching reruns of the inauguration and all of its proceedings, I would like draw a question …By a show of hands, how many of us ever watched an inaugural ball before now, or even cared? Didn’t think so! Previously blacks felt disenfranchised, therefore reluctant to vote, or voted between the lesser of two evils. No real reason to celebrate.
This year it was an Inauguration Party! I don’t know if it was Obama and his swagger, or the fact that hip-hop was totally involved in this election that we made the 2009 Inauguration of Obama a real reason to celebrate.
From Aretha Franklin’s Amazing Grace to Beyonce’s At Last, I knew that this is what a Inauguration that I hardly knew existed should feel like. If Obama doesn’t do a thing in office, he made a difference in America as of 1/21/2009 7:43 PM. He shall be known as the president that united the states within America. Hooray for the number of black people, minorities and youngsters that not only tuned in, but made the commute to Washington D.C. to make history happen! Although this year’s election was not my first time voting, it was my first time participating in its entirety. So now that we’ve partied hard, let’s work harder.

Great point. I think I watched them dance all 10 times. It did get old after a while though.
