? Of The Day: Is Barack Obama’s Innauguration The Fulfillment of Dr. King’s Dream
A Special Debate
As we embark on, without a doubt, the most historic day in my life it begs this very important question. The constitution says that the new president MUST be inaugurated on the 20th of January. Ironically this very historic day that we will inaugurate Barack Obama, on the calendar falls just hours after we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
There have been many similarities that have been drawn between the two from their eloquence, their leadership qualities and belief in “a dream.” While Dr. King proposed that dream, is Barack Obama that fulfillment or is it simply a step in the right direction?

It’s interesting that you should pose this question, because CNN just did a poll on this. According to their survey, more than 2/3 of blacks believe that Dr. King’s dream is fulfilled. But I worship Jesus Christ, so I care more about the prophesy of God, than just King’s dream alone. .
Personally, I feel that this is JUST A STEP in the right direction. You still have thousands of our boys selling dope, with no hope, and still no first black Pope.
In all seriousness, this is indicative of the Talented Tenth principle that still rings true today. While SOME of our brothas will make it, many more won’t. And that predicament is what motivates me to reach out to those without opportunities. And I’m sure it motivates you as well.
.
I want to be free like the next man. But there are some limitations on my freedom, that I might not ever be able to break free off unless I move to Liberia.
Are you saying that you subscribe to W.E.B. Dubois’ philosophy of the Talented 10th?
No doubt. It still rings true today. But I don’t think you know much about that because of your Afro-Hispanic heritage. There IS a glass ceiling on the progress of black males. You and I wouldn’t be Bigs (well I’m not confirmed yet) at Big Brothers Big Sisters if that wasn’t the case. While I applaud you for starting your own business, you know that there’s not enough hope to go around the table.
Dripping with tongue in cheek sarcasm. I love it but you are so very right.
There’s so much unfair acts that go on in this country. We’re getting there, but no, I don’t believe his dream has been fulfilled yet – Until the day hate crimes stop.
So do you feel that Dr. King was talking about Hate Crimes in his “Dream” speech? Gay Issues are the most common “hate” crimes today yet in the 60′s Dr. King wasn’t really referring to them in his struggle. Must we squash all gender bias prior to realizing the dream?
we as minorities can’t be gullible here, this is our biggest step to date but just that a step. another S. Bell encounter will happen next week and white ladies will still clinch purses when your boy needs a shave. big step, dream not fulfilled yet.
I think it is a step in the right direction, Dr.King want people of all colors to be able to live together in peace and get along, since a majority of Obamas votes came from white people( no disrespect intended)that is a sing that we are overcoming our differances and coming together as a unified people.
