Who’s really killing Hip Hop?

Posted by Munika

Bow Wow

When you think about that question please be slow to speak on it. Most recently it was allegedly Soulja Boy that was single handedly killing hip-hop. Then they put the blame on the south and all the commercial music it contributes to the urban market. Before that, it was the east coast versus west coast and the controversy that fueled the gang rivalries. Oh yea, did we forget about the senseless killings of Notorious Big and TuPac? WTF. The value of a record deal at a major label has depleted immensely and YouTube runs promotion and advertising. Unfortunately, mainstream artist have seen a plummet in record sales, is this some type of foreshadowing that hip-hop is diminishing?

  1. The Sponsor says:

The consumer is killing hip-hop. The Jew can try to sell you anything. But if you buy it – if you get behind it – who’s really the problem?

Who you gonna let someone come to your house, find the most ignorant relatives you got, make them King, then bow down to that fraudelent shit?

Black consumers killed this shit. Stop co-signing, buying, downloading and otherwise promoting lackluster music. White kids got an excuse, its not their culture. What’s ours?

  2. For me it was before the Net got poppin…Artist would have that ONE hot single, an then when you bout the CD(16.99-19.99) it was MAJOR LEAGUE WAKk!!!

With that WAY more bootleggin… WAY more “Napstering” & Sharing cause cats were tired of that. Props to some sites, FYE, & iTunes for giving you the Preview option these days. Would have saved mad cake if it was around then…besides listing to ya boys CD

What killed hip-hop?!? TIME. It’s not an alternative music anymore, it’s been mainstream for a long time. It’s only a matter of time before everyone and their grandma is rapping and it’s been like that for years.

  4. STAF G says:

The way some act in rap is kinda of whack and it lacks creativity and intelligence. But they don’tcare because their company is selling it.

  5. Dee says:

I BALME the artist flat out. It is not the consumer if so then Lil Wayne would not have sold 1 million copies, so people go out and buy albums that is not the issue it is the artist themselves. Quit making one hot song and people will buy albums again.

i think US as a whole are killin rap, hiphop etc. Y? bc the adults and kids have a riff between them. They got diff styles of music. how is the music genre supposed to grow if there is finger pointing and blame-throwin and noone tryna rectify it or step back and do their part to see that both sides are prepped for cohesion. we as a people need to get together and get to a common root of this issue. and then try and solve it so that all sides are happy. i also dont believe its gonna be just one thing thats sought as the sole issue. .

  7. macika says:

its gonna take time and patience and accountability to get this one sorted out. and to be honest, im real tired of he or she is killin hiphop, rap etc topic anyway.

  8. Mitchell says:

To talk about what is killing hip hop you have to luck at its root and also how the most powerful players of the hiphop industry have transformed over the years just to stay in the game. SouljaBoy hand not killed it he is just a product of the game just like Tupac and Biggie were not victims of the east west battles but victims of the the game. The game is hiphop. Hiphop is like a document that at the begining was hard bold and real but after time the writing got worn and rewrittin over and over agian through its years until it wasn’t the same document at the begining.
