Run DMC elected to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame

The second such hip hop nod.

To very little fan fare it was revealed Wednesday that arguably the best hip hop group of ALL TIME, Run DMC will be inducted into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame. This marks only the SECOND such Hip Hop nod to date. In 2008 Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five made waves in the music world with their groundbreaking induction opening the door for Run DMC and others to come.

We interviewed emcee Mele Mel days after the ceremony and hope to have the same opportunity with Run DMC. As Mele Mel explains the groups were very different in style and while Grand Master Flash paved one road, Run DMC and thier Addidas revolution paved another. (Peep the interview after the jump.)

The induction will be of course bitter sweet without perhaps the most intergal part of the group missing, the late Jam Master Jay. The 2009 inductees were announced Wednesday at a press conference in New York. This actual ceremony will be held April 4 in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is based. Tickets will be available to the public unlike in previous years where only music industry heads were able to score a pair.
