Latest on the ‘Notorious’ Beef: Lil Kim Vs. Screenwriters
Could Kim be fabricating all this to stay relevant as dead former lover now steels her Brooklyn Shine?
As we’ve been reporting pretty regularly, Lil Kim recently told Hip-Hop Weekly although she has not seen the film she believes that Faith Evans, and Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, were in cahoots to not only push her out of the project but also misrepresent her on screen. (Once again she’s never seen the film.)
Tuesday Kim released a statement further clarifiying her stance.
“The film studio and producers involved were more concerned about painting me as a ‘character’ to create a more interesting story line instead of a person with talent, self-respect and who was able to achieve her own career success through hard work.”
“Even though my relationship with Big was at times very difficult and complicated (as with most relationships we have all experienced at one time or another), it was also genuine and built on great admiration and love for each other. Regardless of the many lies in the movie and false portrayal of me to help carry a story line through, I will still continue to carry his legacy through my hard work and music.”
Faith Evans and has since denied any involvement in Kim’s accusations, saying that she had very little involvement in the film other than some consulting and that the control lie with its screenwriters, Cheo Hedari Coker and Reggie Rock Bythewood. The later recently spoke with MTV News about Kim’s belly aching.
“When I was brought onto the project, I requested to speak with Kim. Once I was granted access, I was blown away by the two-hour phone interview [we had]. She is a complex person. She is a sister with a lot of vulnerability and a lot of strength. Much of what she told me went directly into my next draft. Unfortunately, she was slipped a draft that was written before our conversation. She was angry at the producers and I did not get to speak with her again.”
Coker went onto to say that the script that Kim obtained was leaked and he believes that Kim will be satisified with the completed project adding the fans will get to see a sympathetic side of Kim that they may have never seen.
Defending his script Bythewood also said, “Some of what I wrote about Kim did not make it in the final version of the script,” he wrote. “Those decisions were made not just by me but by the studio, director and producers. In a film like this, it is hard to put everything in. However, my aim was to present a real-life human being beyond the icon we know. Biggie did right by her at times. He also did her wrong at times. In spite of that, there was deep love and caring between them. Though Lil Kim has been victimized at times, she has never remained a victim. I think director George Tillman and Naturi Naughton, who plays Lil Kim, did a great job revealing that.”
It just seems to me to be a real sideshow. Kim has always taken pride in what she believes in her mind to be the torch being handed to her from B.I.G. I guess that now that her former skeet off is back in the limelight she’s a little jealous. The screenplay was written a looooong time ago, if she felt this way before then why didn’t she voice her opinions now. Its not like this hasn’t been news for a while. I just think all the coverage given to BIG now is getting to her.

I love Lil’ Kim as an artist but I’ll be glad when the movie comes out and she can stop with all this childish mess. Then everyone can see for themselves how she was portrayed in the movie. Somebody ought to tell her that this is a movie about BIGGIE not LIL’ KIM! She was a jumpoff. Plain and simple. Regardless of what their relationship was like, he was married and she was the chick on the side. How can she possibly think that she should have a bigger role in a married man’s story? She needs to stop watching Lifetime movies for real.
Well he was beating it up before BIG married Faith.
lmao
I totally agree w/ kim I grew up with Chris saint james place. I really was excited about seeing the movie, not living in NYC anymore. But after seeing the BET special. One word TERRIABLE!!!!!!!!! They have no idea..
BET Special is probably a whole lot different from the movie. See everyone’s gotta understand although BIG’s been dead a minute, everyone else is still here. Its easy to compare and contrast but if you look at…take RAY for instance. The players are older and its been so long that the details are sketchy anyway so adding something for dramatic effect isn’t as big a deal. You want a documentary? The special edition of the soundtrack at Target which dropped yesterday has it for you.
I’ve seen the movie now and Kim shouldn’t be mad. I think it showed that Big did have love for her and that life happens in a way we don’t always want it to. Hey its not only ladies, I’ve been the dude on the side before when I was too young to know what that meant and its not easy, but in the end you make the choice to be in that position or you don’t. I’ve had that “chick on the side” too and had them snap like the character in this movie so I’ve lived from both sides. We are all human and make mistakes. I believe now that Big had “luv” for her but did not love her the way she wanted maybe. It sucks believe me especially when the physical part of it is popping off real good, but that, in my mind, doesn’t necessarily put Kim in a bad light to me. She’s human too and I can see how that must feel to see it portrayed the way it was in the film. Just be happy for the good times and feelings you did have with Big and move on I say, only you know what was felt and that’s all you can do. I don’t think she’s jealous that Big is getting shined on again either, just probably still hurt that their relationship is being portrayed in what she believes is a negative light like it was a jumpoff when she thinks or maybe knows it was more. I can understand that totally.
