Ludacris Gets Set To Release Album In High Definition Surround Sound

Posted by Mike "Evorgleb" Belgrove

Is Luda about to become a pioneer in how we consume music?

As one of one his best efforts to date, Theater Of The Mind plays off of Ludacris‘ new found acting persona and presents the music in a way that is reminiscent of a film. Now Luda is taking it a step further by hooking up with the guys at Monster Cable and releasing the whole album in High Definition Surround Sound. Making the project even sound like a movie.

Basically, the way it would work is that in instead of the standard two channels (left and right stereo), it would be presented in 5.1 surround sound like many folk’s home theater systems. Though it has been done with a couple other albums in the past, this is the first hip hop album to do so and Ludacris is probably the most well known artist to pull this off. Here’s what Luda had to say while talking to Switch:

I’m always looking to do something different, to be innovative, of course. Since [the record]‘s named ‘Theater of the Mind,’ and it’s themed after movies and great quality sound, I teamed up with Monster Cable, who has this thing HDS — high definition surround.

High def sound may indeed be the way of the future though it does have its limits. For instance earphone will always only be able to present stereo sound since you only have a left and right ear. Thus you would only get that full surround sound while listening to music at home. I give Luda credit though for trying something different.

Its a very good idea just impractical. By design re-releasing the album with the surround sound makes capable collectors have to restock the new edition which boasts bread. I think this however is more about being the “first” than it is about revenue.

  3. the surround sound system that we use at home is made by Dolby Digital and it really sounds great,;.
