TMZ Making Sh*t Up: Claims Timbaland Defaulted On Florist Bill
A quick examination of the facts reveal TMZ embelleshed the non-story to build buzz
There was a report published on TMZ earlier today about superproducer Timbaland reportedly skipping out on his florist bill to the tune of about $11,000 in Christmas decorations.
Now while I know its been a slow news week given the holiday and I’m sure the short staff at TMZ, I must say this is celebrity defamation at best. Originally I skimmed the “article” in hopes of finding some quality juice for the nation…what I found instead was the gossip site clearly taking advantage of the Timbo’s public image.
While its true that the White Tulip Florist in Miami Beach filed legal papers to place a lien on Timbo’s Miami mansion, the post also said the producer acknowledged the sale and was simply protesting the price he was charged. Instead it appears Timbaland was under the impression he was to be charged the wholesale cost of the items and instead was given a bill for more.
Now while I won’t claim to be an source privy to the particulars of the case, I’m upset that Timbaland wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt. Granted TMZ claims to have reached out for comment, it seems clear the story was set to run virtually as is and given his celebrity status clearly makes for a sexier read especially given this economy and at a time when so many music celebs are falling victim to the top heavy housing crisis. Shame on you TMZ!
