From the desk of some rappers still do cool shit, I present to you iCON the Mic King.  Esteemed emcee of the blue school movement, he has been training for  the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America Half-Marathon on January 25th, 2009.  Pretty cool and noble in its own right.

To help iCON in his campaign, the legendary PackFM has challenged his homeboy to determine who’s the “fastest” emcee.  Only there won’t be any microphone, no silly referee in a Footlocker uniform attempting to keep a word count and no need for Twista to defend his crown.  This battle will take place on the race track on January 16th.

“The bet goes like this, I challenge Icon to a race and bet that even though I haven’t competed in well over 10 years, I can beat him in a best of 3 sprint races without any training at all” – PackFM

Fans are encouraged to place their “bets” (in the form of charitable donations) at iCON’s website for the emcee they believe will pull a Usain Bolt and smoke his counterpart.  Premium donors will even get special access to upcoming concert event.

Now while yesterday (Monday) we debated whether beef, fabricated or not still remains a viable and effective marketing tool, this clearly is something different.  That’s why I love the creativity of the guys like Pack FM and iCON.  Not only does it translate to raising money for a worthwhile cause but its evident in the quality of the music they put out.  No silly stunts or fabricated beefs needed just passion and creativity.  Its a shame major media outlets don’t give them enough burn…so I will.  Salute gentilemen.
