RNC Chair Candidate Gave ‘Barack The Magic Negro’ on CD As Xmas Gift
Tennesse Rep. packages Obama parody on Anti-Dem CD he gave to RNC committee members for Christmas
Chip Saltsman, A Republican National Committee (RNC) chair candidate is in serious crisis management mode after it was discovered that the Tennessee Republican included the song “Barack the Magic Negro” on a CD that he sent to committee members as a Christmas gift.
The song which is a spoof of the childrens record “Puff the Magic Dragon,” first surfaced in 2007 on the idiotic conservative political talky, Rush Limbaugh’s radio show and was allegedly created to illustrate a Los Angeles Times column that (wrongly) suggested Barack Obama only appeals to white folks who feel guilty about the America’s historic maltreatment of African Americans; somehow indicating a vote for Barack is some type of weird and twisted penance.
Saltsman says the gift was intended as a joke, “I think most people recognize political satire when they see it,” he told CNN. “I think RNC members understand that.” Sure they do, but few if any who received the gift are black and would be directly offended by it. What about the rest of us?
The song which was created by Saltsman’s buddy, Paul Shanklin, he claims should be easily recognized as satire directed at the Times article. The fruitleg CD called “We Hate the USA” included parody tracks like “John Edwards’ Poverty Tour,” “Wright place, wrong pastor,” “Love Client #9,” “Ivory and Ebony” and “The Star Spanglish Banner.”
Saltsman who was a national campaign manager for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid might want to update his resume…even though I’m sure he got plenty of spins at RNC Christmas parties something tells me he’ll be thrown under the bus as the sacrificial lamb.
Look, comedy is comedy. I’ve said it time and time again that we as American’s take ourselves too seriously and need to lighten up. My only gripe is that the humor is corney! Barack won…Republicans lost, turn the page. John Edwards, Spitzer? That’s old news. Now if he would have included the SNL Govornor Patterson skit, that would have been funny AND CURRENT! That’s the biggest problem with the Republican Party the harp on old ish! NEWS FLASH RNC: They invented this new thing its called the internet.
Is the Barack The Magic Negro thing racist…yeah maybe. Is it funny…no. But lets not get bent out of shape behind it. Saltsman dug his own grave. Lets let him get in it and throw the dirt on top of him and move on. We don’t need any parade marches or press conferences. Lets focus on this crappy economy.

I am constantly amazed at how stupid people can be.
.
From a political standpoint, this ranks right up there with Nixon recording his own conversations or Gary Hart inviting the press to spy on him while he was carrying on an affair.
.
You would think that the natural human sense of self-preservation would have prevented this guy from promoting a song with the word “negro” in it. This guy has, with one song, killed any political future he may have had.
.
The song was written and performed by a guy named Paul Shanklin, who writes material for the Rush Limbaugh show. You can find him at the following link:

I know that he’s using his “Al Sharpton” voice, but I think I find the “black ghetto” accent he used even more offensive than the use of the word “negro”.
.
For those who haven’t heard it, here’s a recording of the song in question:

There’s a simple answer. He recognized that folks in the RNC were down about the election results and wanted to take the opportunity to try and be funny in hopes he’d be seen as “cool” but in the end he looked like an ass.
Oh…and you’re very right about the Al Sharpton voice. As a person who used to work with Imus its very Imusesque. (sorry for the job/name drop Zack)
Juan, you don’t none of this! (No homo)
second that! economy is sh!t right now and will be for some time. I hope yall got your boots on!!
Since I wrote this post I’m going back and forth as to if this is really racist.
But what if Mike sent out a CD with a track entitled “Juan The Half-Black Dominican”? I think you’d be slightly offended. But good post.
