Keisha Chante To Play Aaliyah in Upcoming Biopic

Posted by Juan

She has a lot to live up to

Chante

Late last week BET reported that Canadian-born R&B singer Keisha Chante has signed on to play the late Aaliyah in the highly anticipated Biopic.  The film is a dramatic adaptation of the life of the R&B songstress from her childhood to her successful career and tragic death in a 2001 plane crash.

Much in the same vain as the rapper Gravy’s selection to play the Notiorious B.I.G. in Biggie’s upcoming biopic Chante does not boast any extensive acting experience.  The little known singer has starred in a few indie flicks and like Gravy has yet to establish herself as an accomplished artist only having released one album, “2U” in 2006.

Although she bears a resemblence its tough for Chante given that Aaliyah was so beutiful.  She’s going to have a lot of detractors who, given Aaliyah’s cult like following and status will refuse to embrace Chante or her adaptation.  At least with Gravy, we all knew B.I.G. was ugly as sh*t so he’s physical appearence wasn’t going to let anyone down. It is however going to be hard for Gravy to go back to being Gravy because that’s all anyone will know him for.  Its like watching James Gandolfini play a soccer coach.

I got a role for her, in the movie of my life called “Girl on My Lap”. :)

You ain’t right for talking about Biggie’s looks. Heck, he still pulled Faith so the brotha had some swagger about him. But I’m just tired of biopics about dead musicians. Let’s do some movies where the ending won’t be spoiled before we see them.
