Jimmy Fallon (Finally) Confirms The Roots as ‘Late Night’ House Band
Fallon’s video blog introduces the coolest band in late night…by far. But are they hanging it up for good?
We’ve been reporting it for a grip now but today “Late Night” host-elect, Jimmy Fallon confirmed via his vlog that The Roots indeed will star as the house band on the overhauled talk show. Remember that YouTube video of ?uestlove making the announcement weeks ago which mysteriously was yanked from the net? (I told you something was fishy.) Well I guess he spilled the beans a bit early and since it became the worst kept secret on the internet. But today ?uestlove and the folks at OkayPlayer were clearly giddy about the announcement and the backstage video clip.
As a huge fan of The Roots I must admit the announcement and the subsequent video gives me goosebumps. I want more! The band’s creativity championed by ?uesto will make for some very entertaining jam sessions, skits and ohhh the special guests they’ll pull. Honestly, I can’t say I’ve ever been impressed by Jimmy Fallon (or Jimmy Kimmel for that matter) but I’m going to have to check in from time to time just to hear the impromptu jam sessions as they go to break.
In addition to confirming the rumor, OkayPlayer made a point to assure fans that the The Legendary Roots crew “aren’t completely hanging up their hats for the day jobby job – there’s still plenty of weekends and TV-vacation time for touring.” Hmmmm. Either way it’s a good look but I’m going to need that next album sometime soon.
