NYC’s Historic ‘Knitting Factory’ Closes Doors. One Last Hip Hop Show
Rakim will headline the last Hip Hop show at the venue
One of New York’s musical landmarks will be shutting its doors for good at the close of this year. The legendary Knitting Factory has launched the careers of many of hip hop’s elite. I for one saw The Roots there as they were on the undercard of a Fugees bill. Although the Knitting Factory is by no means large and is by some standards a decrepit whole in the wall it has culture and is one of New York musics relics in the same vain of the historic D&D studios which also recently closed its doors.
However, Hip Hop is sending her off with a bang as the the final show at the Knit will be headlined by Rakim and feature a Black Thought riding solo (yeah right!) plus special guests Keith Murray and Just Ice. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of big names hit the stage for some last impromptu peformance. So if you’re from New York or will be spending the holidays here, come witness history as The Knit does Hip Hop one last time.
