Skillz Blogs about ‘Remembering Kanye’
Emcee explains how a random track sparked his early memories of the producer.
Its always refreshing when you find out that an artist takes the time to personally update his myspace page or when Q-Tip tweets his venom on Twitter or when an artist actually personally blogs to his fans. The incidents are few and far between. We all remember Skillz right? The artist formerly known as Mad Skillz? (Anyway for you younger cats please google him you’ll be in for a treat.)
Skillz has been in a game for a minute and never had any multi-platinum success but or probably never appeared on the coach at 106 & Park but he was Viriginia hip hop long before the Neptunes stepped on the scene. Although his relevance today is still debated he is still featured on the occasional mixtape or b-side. He does often drop and interesting blog gem however. Such was the case this past weekend. For those of you Kanye West fans out there you might want to check it out. He writes about how a random and surprisingly unused Kanye beat he “found” on his computer (you know how you “find” a dollar in your pocket) reminded him of his early days meeting the legendary producer. Here’s an excerpt
So one day he tells me he wants to take me over Kanye’s crib to get some beats. Im like ” Who’s Kanye’? He’s like That Mos’s man. He got some shit. So then on the way to Hoboken he tells me the songs he did and how he’s not really like Jay and them but Jay & then dont fuck with him outside tracks. So I’m like ” Oh, from the Chi, he did H to The Izzo! I remember him from the video showing off his tattoo

Kanye doesn’t listen to rap in his crib anymore.. that explains a lot
