The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the father of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver lay in the hospital today following what the family is calling a vicious beat down courtesy of two Houston police officers.

Marvin Driver Jr. was found to be “unresponsive” upon his arrival at jail, CNN reported Thursday. His family members said the arresting officers pulled him behind a gas station, beat him, forced him to swallow something, then told him he was “going to see Jesus.”  The two accused officers, rookies Gilberto Cruz and Bacilio Guzman (who was only sworn in this June) remain on duty pending further investigation, police said.

A Drivers held a news conference Wednesday and showed reporters pictures of Marvin Driver in the hospital with a tube in his mouth to demonstrate the destruction.

The incident began late Sunday when Driver was dropping his brother, Winston Driver, off after the two had moved furniture. According to the family’s written statement, officers pulled over Marvin Driver Jr. in front of his mother’s home. An argument broke out between the police and Driver, as well as his relatives, over the language police were using. “They made disparaging remarks about family members with whom the officer had a problem with,” said the family spokesperson. “The officer obviously had some envious issues about one particular family member.”

Police told relatives Driver was being taken to jail for the outstanding warrants, relatives said. “Later, the family found out he never made it to the jail,” the statement said.

Apparently, Marvin Driver was able to explain what happened by writing some notes on paper from the hospital.  Donald Driver has been excused from practice to be by his family’s side.

For those of you who thought that Martin’s dream was fulfilled with Obama’s election may I present exhibit A.  Maybe I’m wrong and the “magic” won’t kick in until after he’s actually inaugurated.  But I think you’d be delusional to think so.  Granted I don’t know the race of the police officers but given their names I’m assuming they’re hispanic.  I do know however that the Driver is black.  We’re still a target and don’t get it twisted.  This is just sad, sad, sad.  I’m getting flashbacks from Amadou Diallo.
