Timbaland Gets Into Film. Signs on to Exec. Produce ‘Vinyl’
Is this about his skills or his Verizon Wireless connect?
They say its always best to go out on top. This might not exactly be the end but its definately the beginning. Grammy-award winning, super-producer Timbaland has been featured has been the most highly sought after beat smith building the careers of the likes of Missy Elliot and Justin Timberlake. Quietly he has also made his presence felt on the big and small screens contributing music to more than 50 film and TV projects and now it appears he will add his first feature film into the resume.
According to Billboard, producer’s Mosley Media Group and Effie T. Brown’s Duly Noted Inc. have joined up on the new project titled “Vinyl,” the story of five young women facing life-altering decisions about their relationships with members of a rock band.
Timbaland has signed on as executive producer along side writer-director Richard Zelniker. Initially I was confused by the Timbaland selection as it turns out the production team is looking to promote the film using new school guerilla marketing tactics namely using mobile devices. By recruiting Timbaland (I’m assuming) they’ll tap into his established relationship with Verizon Wireless’ V Cast. You’ll remember that Timbo launched a huge initiative with the wireless provider early this year to promote the V Cast touring mobile studio in which the producer exclusively recorded and demo’d his forthcoming album. I’m sure amongst other qualities, the Verizon Wireless connect was a key element that Timbo was able to bring to the table for the film.
