T-Pain Teams With OnStage.com To Scam ‘The Next Hip Hop Star’ With a Fugazi Deal

Posted by Juan

Contest promises the world but offers little…IMO

T-Pain

OurStage a site for up-and-coming talent has aligned with the vocoded T-Pain to discover America’s next top model hip-hop. star.  Aspiring artist are encouraged to log on to http://www.ourstage.com/go/tpain and submit their music for a chance to record a single with T-Pain that will be distributed through his online label, Nappy Boy Digital.

There is a catch however!  In order to enter, artists must download T-Pain’s “Everybody Else” (yaaaawn) on OurStage, sit through the first 30 seconds and then complete the song with their own lyrics. In addition to the winning song being posted on T-Pain’s Web site, the winner will receive a one-track recording contract with Nappy Boy Digital, with the option to extend (if they feel they can extort you for future releases which they probably won’t.) In addition, all entries ranked in the Channel’s Top 10 will be featured on Radio One affiliate stations in December. T-Pain will play top entries and announce the winner on-air.

“Thanks to the Internet, this is a new day and age for artists hoping to be heard,” says T-Pain. “That’s what inspired me to form Nappy Boy Digital. This is a label designed to….”  Ahhhhhhh enough already.  I understand you might have to bite the bullet to make your career pop so by all means if this sounds interesting to you go for it but it’s a gimmick like anything else.  Buyer beware!

  2. What’s the SCAM???? You haven’t listed ONE thing that sounds like a scam. You just stated exactly what’s offered and what the contest is about. SCAM implies something deceitful or misleading.
    1. The contest is FREE
    2. It’s great exposure for the artist
    3. getting a single deal or other is a good thing for the artists.

With any contract, artists are advised to seek out legal counsel before any contract.
