Thank You George Bush For Helping Us Get The First Black President
George Bush probably deserves more credit than any other single person for the election of Barack Obama
Moments after Barack Obama was anounced the winner of the 2008 Presidential Election, the sitting president George W. Bush called the next president to congratulate him and to invite him to visit the White House (presumably to “measure the drapes”). Of course it is proper etiquette to do such a thing even though Obama severely bad mouthed George Bush for his entire campaign and said McCain would have been “more of the same”. By linking McCain to the overwhelmingly unpopular Bush, Obama was able to ride a wave of W. hate all the way to the win.
Millions like myself are excited and in a bit of disbelief that America really elected a black president. Most of us never thought we’d see a black president in our life time let alone in 2008. How could a country that was built on the concept of racism through slavery, struggled through segregation and even now fights over ideas such as affirmative action choose an African-American to run the country? The answer is simple, George Bush. Because of the fact that George Bush sucked so thoroughly at his job an environment was created where people who are knowingly racist as well as ones that aren’t aware that their bigotry and stereotyping is racism were able to put everything aside to take a risk. A risk on change. Yes, Barack had a terrific campaign, huge support from blacks and young people as well as a number of other factors that helped him get elected but Bush opened up that door for Obama to walk through.
So I want to personally thank George W. Bush for being such a terrible president. Through his incompetency and complete inability to be a leader for this nation he has given America the pen needed to write another chapter in the book that is the civil rights movement.

Great post. Although I know its somewhat tongue in cheek I disagree. I think Bush helped to create the perfect storm but I think that could be said with any president. I don’t think America voted Obama because they wanted the total opposite of Bush including in the category of color. Very eloquent however Mike.
It’s so damn true. Thank You George W. Bush for having the lowest approval ratings and allowing people to open their minds to the possibility of anything. OBAMA ’08!!!
If i could go back 2 terms ago and have the option to either:
Have a good president simular to clinton for the next 8 years
or
Suffer 8 years with a bad president but in the end have a black man with a plan/vision become the most powerful man in the world…
Bush would have my vote
Everything happens for a reason…thanks G.W.B.
I don’t think you can say it was all George Bush’s fault.. any president in that situation would’ve handled it somehow. It just happens that GWB was in the whitehouse at the time. If Barack’s president and this all goes down they’re just going to say McCain would’ve been a better choice.. and if McCain made it, and it went down the tube – then it would just be vise versa. Eitherway, I can’t wait for a change finally!
hindsight is indeed 20/20 but I feel like anyone could have been a better prez than Bush. He got that office not because he worked his behind off but because his dad had already opened that door for him. People will always have different opinions on how the wars have been handled but nothing excuses how he handled Katrina.
hypefactor what are you refering to when you say any president would of handled “it” some way
Are you talking about the economy where george bush’s failed plan turned surpluses into debt…
or katrina where it took damn near a week for him to respond to one of the greatest natural disasters in the us. like mike said nothing excuses how he handled that, we’ll never forget it…
or 9/11 where he committed the greatest crime in history by lying to us, making us feel like we were going to war on terror when instead our money/lives were wasted to increase his and his friends’ pocket books…
Yeah its not all his fault but he had the most power at hand and therefore we hold him accountable. just like michael moore said, history wont treat him well and he needs to be investigated…..
