Kimbo Slice’s Epic Fail Causes His Whole MMA Promotion To Fold

Posted by Mike "Evorgleb" Belgrove

Talk about pressure. Kimbo was carrying the whole promotion. So when he lost…whelp.

kimboslice25.jpg

By now everyone is familiar with Kimbo Slice’s recent 14 second MMA loss. If not, this is how it went. Kimbo was scheduled to fight Ken Shamrock. Ken Shamrock hasn’t been a good fighter in some time and has spent the last few years as Tito Ortiz’s personal punching bag but with his drawing power was set to do huge numbers when he and Kimbo locked it up in a Saturday Night fight on CBS. Well, Ken no showed and EliteXC scrambled to find a replacement. Who they found was Seth Petruzelli, a little known fighter with a not so great record. The plan was to just feed someone to Kimbo so fans could at least see the internet sensation knock someone out. From what I hear Seth has been fed to a few big name fighters in the past and was pretty much a professional jobber (he seems to just like to roll around with half naked men). However what happened that Saturday was Seth beat the holy ish out of Kimbo… in 14 seconds.

Kimbo’s skills had always been questionable. Several UFC guys have called Kimbo “a bum” who would quickly lose to anyone in UFC. EliteXC, Kimbo’s promotion, ignored those kind of statements and built their whole promotion around Kimbo. So in the fallout of his lose, everything came apart. EliteXC lost tons of advertising who were afraid that people weren’t gonna tune in anymore since Kimbo is no longer seen as unstoppable. After the advertisers left, EliteXC lost their TV deals with Showtime and CBS. So now with no money and no TV deals, EliteXC is closing up shop.

All this because Kimbo loss one fight. Talk about an epic fail.

Damn, talk about not having any faith in your client!
His big ass still scares the hell outta me though and I’m still mad at him french braiding the remaining hair on his head completely ignoring the fact that he has a culdesac on the top of his head ( don’t tell him I said that ).
But yeah, what is he gonna do now? Go back to fighting on the street?

Kimbo is only 34 though he looks much older. What he needs to do is take some time and really learn how to fight. His martial art is listed as “Brawling”. That’s not gonna fly when you are going against guys who are jujitsu champions. There are other MMA promotions that he can get down with but he needs to step his game up if he’s gonna play in the big leagues.

Yo do you think he’ll be better as a boxer? The guy can punch all day.

Well he surely doesn’t know how to use his feet so boxing might be a better choice. Maybe if it was 4 round matches like Butterbean used to do. Kimbo doesn’t have the endurance for 12 rounds. Honestly if Kimbo wanted to make some serious money he’d go to WWE. Brock Lesner, Tank Abbot, Ken Shamrock have Dan Severn have all did stints in WWE and made quite a bit of money. Yeh it’s fixed and choreographed but if the goal is to make a lot of money and look like a bad ass then that would be the way to go.

Yeah, he would be the shit in WWE, if he can act and i use that word loosely. You ever notice how the WWE do their black wrestlers?

Yo Elite XC sucked anyway, they were bound to fail. Basically in MMA its either UFC or Pride Fighting, if you aint in either one of them, you aint that good. Kimbo has lost before so I dont understand why he was ever viewed as “unstoppable”, that cop in Boston kicked his ass, foreal. But 14 seconds is crazy.

what most people DONT know is that cop from Boston was/is an MMA fighter b4 fighting Kimbo. There were ‘rules’ when those fights would go down. Mr Gannon didnt adhere to those rules. That is why he did get beat that fight. Anyne who has eyes and half a brain can see that. When i saw the ‘14 secs’ of his last fight it seemed like it was surreal. But in his defense, if youre training to fight a specific person and they back out it throws everythign off that you trained for. everything. I hope he bounces back and keeps the checks rollin in somehow. I’ll still watch him fight tho.

YOur right, Kimbo was training to fight Shamrock and did not get a chance to properly prepare but he went up against a guy who hadn’t been training for an opponent at all. Seth Petruzelli also didn’t get a chance to prepare. Only difference, Kimbo at least had been preparing to fight on that day.

and…. Shamrock, in his prime, would have tore the lining out of Kimbo’s ass! (circa 1993)

Okay, what were the rules? Tank Abbot was MMA too, but look what happen to him. I understand what you saying bout Shamrock backing out, but to get KO’d in 14 secs by a jab? I could see if it was a superman punch, it was a damn JAB!!!!

Okay, I looked it up and you were right, Gannon did violate the rules. Knees and choking is illegal in Street Fighting.

They were stupid to think that a street fighter could compete with these “real” fighters after a year of practice. Let this be a lesson to all you hardcore gangsta-ass niggas that think your knuckle-game is official! Street fighting lasts a few seconds. Kimbo is a bad-ass STREET FIGHTER! Nothing more! He could kick my ass, but he couldn’t whip a 170 lbs. Royce Gracie (google him!) He was submitting folk twice his size back in the day!
