Highbrid Nation Remembers: 70’s Comedian Icon Rudy Ray Moore AKA ‘Dolemite’
“rappin’ & tappin’ is my game!”
EURWeb is reporting that Comedian Rudy Ray Moore best known as the the uniquely articulate pimp, Dolemite died over the weekend from complications of diabetes in Akron, Ohio. Dolemite, whose matto was “rappin’ & tappin’ is my game!” is most recognized from the self titled 1975 blacksploitation film and its sequel, “The Human Tornado.”
However prior to hitting the big screen Moore spent years developing the Dolemite persona during his stand-up comedy records throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Described by Wikipedia as more rude and explicit than Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor his brash style prohibitted him from enjoying cross-over success on television and major films but did have a small but ravid fan base.
His influence in the Hip Hop culture was felt when he was featured on Big Daddy Kane’s Taste of Chocolate, album in 1990 and samples from 2 Live Crew early records like “Throw The Dick.”
Moore was 81.
