Lil Wayne’s Blogs A Hit For ESPN.Com. Gets Network’s Logo Tat’d on His Arm
A rare props to Weezie and salute to ESPN for not forgetting “us.”
In what is a very wise move for ESPN albeit somewhat risky, the network has recruited rap music’s version of Ozzie Osbourne, Lil Wayne to blog for them. Word is they were actually thinking about hiring him to do guest spots on SportsCenter but no one could understand him. (Just Kidding)
Although I’m far…very far from a Little Wayne fan I must send a very strong salute to the folks at ESPN that put this together. Its not rocket science but they’re making a conscious effort to reach out to the otherwise forgotten black sports fan. They missed the mark with Stuart Scott and his stereotypical “Boo-yow” but by hiring one of the highest grossing urban artist of present day to spice up the website they’ve hit a homerun (no pun intended.)
The blog is an ode to how us black folk consume our sports. Unlike our white counterparts we don’t often sit around a bar commiserating over a frosty mug of beer. Instead we scream at the top of our lungs in the barbershop, our local basketball courts or around the squat rack at the local YMCA. We’re different but ESPN realizes we’re important and Lil Wayne speaks to that audience.
The self proclaimed sports fanatic writes about everything from football, baseball, basketball to even tennis and ads the very hip hop weekly shot outs. This week’s props went to Chris Paul and Ocho Cinco. I must admit although I personally can’t sit and read an entire blog its a rather refreshing perspective on sports from a fan whose not necessarily an expert. In his now second blog installment Weezie discusses this week’s college action and his feelings on the MLB playoffs. Much to ESPN’s chagrin the entry has received an incredible 1478 comments at press time.
So what does Weezie think of all this?
First of all, wow. I am overwhelmed by the response to my first blog entry. I think I read the first 402 comments. A lot of them were crazy. A thousand comments in the first day? That makes me happy. I’ve been telling people, “Man I got a blog on ESPN,” and they go, “Yeah, boy, but you’re latest song is crazy!” and I’m like, “I know, but did you see my blog?” I am so excited to have this opportunity. You don’t understand. I got ESPN tattooed on my arm. I’ve had it for at least three months now, so that should show you how seriously I’m gonna take this. I know some people out there don’t think it’s really me, but you have to prove a lot of things when you’re an entertainer, so I’m used to it.
I guess its hard to prove that its him writing cause we don’t have anything coherent that he’s ever said to base a comparison upon. As far as the tattoo is concerned, is it THAT big a deal? He’s got about 100 others on his arms alone, I’m sure no one even noticed.

Juan you aint a fan of nobody. who are you a fan of? i think its good for wayne. much props.
Weezy must have a great editor. But that is to be expected when you’re working with the folks at ESPN. I’m not into sports so I won’t be going back anytime soon.
But yeah, Juan, who are you a fan of?
Music wise? Maybe I should blog about it some time cause I guess I do sound like a hater don’t I? I’ve always vibed with Nas and Jay. I really enjoy Kanye as a producer and at times as an artist. I’m into Common although I used to hate his flow. Lesser known acts like Little Brother and Substantial and of course the Highbrid emcees are some of my current favorites.
There’s not much out right now that I can really consider being a fan of you’re right. Unfortunately my artistic heroes like B.I.G., Brand Nubian, Black Moon/ Bootcamp, M.O.P., Gangstarr, AZ, Big L, Group Home all aint around no more. I love Jazz, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Charlie Parker anyone?
Nobody really cares about what type of jungle booty gorilla music you listen to. Now Wayne Newton and Barry Manilow are the best in the world! Elvis Presley…the KING of Rock and roll.
Even Eminem stuck his hand into that “drip drop-hip hop” music and made money like a smart white man.
Praise white Jesus!
Where is “Ruckus’ Corner”? The People will love me. I will bring the white prospective to Highbrid. You monkeys are thinking small.
You got that Juan.
Miles, Davis, Charlie Parker, Coltrane, Ellington… I could continue the list of some greats.
Hey Uncle Ruckus! Come on over to hoodgrownonline.com You can probably blog over there! They’ve got me “Ya gay friend’s favorite straight friend” & Glock DeNiro Tha Godfather, a homophobic ebonic-writing ignoramous & fine-ass Shelzs blogging. We could use a racist white boy to add some “color” over there. Ask for “Cartel.” one.
